BUFFY THE VAMPIRE
SLAYER
Available: Now for Xbox
From: Electronic Arts
"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" is
primarily a beat-'em-up game,
and a darn cool one at that. Our
hero moves a bit stiffly when
jumping platforms, and fending
off multiple oppo
nents is a futile ex
ercise. But when it
comes to good ol'
punching and kick
ing, "Buffy's" fast
pace is a good time,
with tons of com
bos, special moves
and foreign objects
that help mix things
up. All the show's
characters are rep
resented with great
models and
voiceovers, though
the one-liners get
old fast. More suc
cessful are the vari
ous styles of music
that accompany the
excellent environ-
ments. It's a game
that pays homage to
its namesake, but also one that
fans of action games in general
will eat up.

CRAZY TAXI 3: HIGH
ROLLER
Available: Now for XBox
From: Sega
"Crazy Taxi 3's" new Las Ve
gas/Grand Canyon level isn't
bad, but the confusing amounts
of slowdown and somewhat
disjointed level design make it
the weakest of the series' three
levels. Fortunately, "Crazy Taxi
3" also contains the Small
Apple and amazing West Coast
level, as well as nearly every
thing from the first two games.
Playing "Crazy Taxi l's" West
Coast level with "Crazy Taxi
2's" Crazy Jump move is about
as fun as gaming gets, and the
new mini-games feature some
gems (Crazy Football, Crazy
Tornado) among some also-rans
and duds. Dreamcast owners
who still have the prior two
games may not find this worth a
purchase, but "Crazy Taxi 3" is
an awesome value for everyone
else, giving you every square
inch of a franchise that's as ad
dictive now as it was when it
first arrived.
Video company gets exposed!
by James L. Rosica
Knight Ridder Newspapers
The case of a former Florida State Uni
versity student who exposed her breasts and
unwittingly became a "Girl Gone Wild" may
go to trial in Tallahassee.
But the Girls Gone Wild video makers
defeated a similar lawsuit in Louisiana ear
lier this year, in which a judge ruled that
women who "flash" in public don't have to
consent to being filmed.
Jury selection has been set for Oct. 7 in
Becky Lynn Gritzke vs. M.R.A. Holding
and Mantra Films, producers of the Girls
Gone Wild video series, which features
young women baring their bodies, usually
in public.
The 25-year-old Gritzke, a one-time
swimsuit calendar model, said she was vid
eotaped without her permission when she
pulled up her top on New Orleans' Bour
bon Street at the 2000 Mardi Gras celebra
tion.
The footage wound up in the Girls Gone
Wild "Sexy Sorority Sweethearts" video,
which includes unrelated scenes of other
women performing sex acts, according to
court documents. Gritzke's photo also is on
the cover and in nationally distributed ads.
She first sued in September 2001; the case
now is in federal court here, before U.S.
District Judge Robert Hinkle. Gritzke is
seeking more than $75,000 in damages, and
an undisclosed cut, estimated to be in the
millions, of the profits from the video's sale.
Her case now rests on two claims: That
her likeness was used without her permis
sion, and that her appearance in the video
has unjustly subjected her to ridicule, em
barrassment or disdain.
But the Girls Gone Wild team has wrapped
itself in the First Amendment, saying in
court records that Gritzke's "removing her
shirt in public at the world famous Mardi
Gras celebration ... is certainly a matter of
public interest (and) publications of public
nudity generally are considered newswor-

Case law largely has not recognized a right
to privacy in public. But the courts have af
firmed a person's right not to have his or her
image exploited commercially.
Gritzke's lawyers at first said she did not
know she was being taped because the video

cameras were hidden. The tape featuring her
was shot by an independent cameraman who
sold it to Girls Gone Wild.
But according to recent court filings,
Gritzke asked the cameraman, "What's with
the light?" and he answered he was "making
a video."
That doesn't constitute consent, according
to documents filed by her attorney, Kelly
Overstreet Johnson of Tallahassee. Johnson
declined comment to the Tallahassee Demo

But Ronald E. Guttman, the Los Ange
les-based lawyer for the Girls Gone Wild
producers, noted that a Louisiana judge
tossed out a suit by three underage women
who were included on another Girls Gone
Wild video.
In that case, the women, two were 16 at
the time and the third was 17, were drink
ing at a New Orleans club during Mardi
Gras 1999 and showed their breasts to a
cameraman.
In March, Judge C. Hunter King of Or
leans Parish Civil District Court dismissed
the suit
"They were consenting to the video and/
or photographs taking place," he said, ac
cording to a hearing transcript. "It seems
like they were pretty willing ....
"When you do it on Bourbon Street or
go into a club and do it and you know there
is an individual with a video (camera), cer
tainly you must expect that this is going to
be shown all over the place," Hunter said.
"... They had the ability to say no." Hunter's
decision was not appealed, records show.
"I believe that Judge King's analysis in
the Louisiana action is indicative of how
Gritzke's case ultimately will he decided,"
Guttman said in a statement. "But we're
ready to go to trial and we're confident of a
successful outcome, based on the facts and
the First Amendment."
But Hinkle already has questioned the
free-speech defense in a recent court order,
saying, "The First Amendment provides no
right to make an unconsenting individual
the poster-person for a commercial prod
uct, as plaintiff alleges defendant has done."
Johnson declined to say where her client
now lives or works. Gritzke was Miss Sep
tember 2000 in a "Women of FSU" calen
dar published by Campus Calendars. Ac
cording to the calendar Web site, she stud
ied accounting and finance, and is a South
Florida native.
