Page 4 The Behrend Beacon CCC christens campus by Lareina King staff writer Campus Crusades for Christ, a new organization that sophomore Brad Elder is attempting to establish at Behrend, is already a program at 11 other Penn State campuses. "CCC is a nondenominational international Christian organization," said Elder. "Its mission is turning lost students into Christ-centered laborers." Elder was the first to look into the idea of a CCC organization at Behrend. Right now, CCC is waiting on an approval from SGA. If approved, Elder's plan is tct have an outreach right away. "Something with Christmas or sled riding is what we're thinking," said Elder. If the application is approved, New radio station on campus? by Lareina King staff writer A new FM radio station may debut at Behrend soon. "It will be completely student-led," said Katie Leary, Student Government Association radio station committee chairwoman. The station will play different styles of music during certain times of the day. Student organizations, offices, and local business will have commercial time on air. We are competing with Gannon for the same call numbers but are The Inside Story On the outside, it's easy to see that Celica is race-track inspired. But the real excitement is on the inside...under the hood. Take the Celica GT-S...Toyota worked with Yamaha to build a 180 HP engine redlined at 7800 RPM...equipped it with Variable Valve Timing with intelligence...a computer that constantly monitors and retunes your engine for maxi mum performance...a cam with two sets of lobes to provide two ranges of valve lift and duration for more usable horse power. There's direct ignition for greater reliability... iridium-tipped spark plugs for reduced maintenance...a stainless steel exhaust manifold...a water-cooled oil cooler. And mated with Toyota's 4-speed electronically-controlled automatic "Sportshift", you get transmission shift switches on the steering wheel...just like formula 1 race cars. Sweet. meetings will be held at 8 p.m. in the Smith Chapel on Wednesdays. Meetings will consist of Bible discussions, worship, and future plans. Some of the things it will include are large group meetings, small Bible studies, and an outreach committee. "Its just another time, place, and atmosphere," said Elder about CCC competing with other Christian groups, such as the Intervarsity Christian Fellowship. "CCC will focus on different aspects of need. Students that come will make it what it is. It will only be competitive if people make it that way." CCC is established in 170 countries on campuses as large as University Park and as small as 1,000-student community colleges. It was started by two students at UCLA who felt the need to spread their faith. They began likely to get them because Gannon has a station already," Leary said. Right now, she is in contact with station managers at Gannon and Mercyhurst for help with the station. SGA had help with their application for a permit, which was sent out in May. The Student Activity Fee Committee has $lO,OOO set aside for start up, although the application needs to be accepted before the equipment can be bought and a manager hired. Another problem is finding a place to put the station. If a place can't be found Leary suggested Celica the possibility of putting the station in the SGA suite. Because of its low power, the station will air in a radius of five to 10 miles. The new FM station could also be tied into the Communications department. Dr. Rod Troester, department chairman, pointed out there is already a one-credit course offered relating to the existing radio station, WPSE. "Depending on how the FM station develops if it is actually approved by the FCC, there would certainly be the possibility of adding radio-related coursework," he added. www.gettoyota.com Driving a new Toyota is easier than ever because now your Toyota dealer has a spec Hal college graduate financing program available thru Toyota Financial Services that offers a lot of great advantages. By the end of the semester, 60 women from a sorority party had come to accept Jesus. As more people came they decided to become an organization. Those two students made CCC their life's work. One of their highly popular programs is a fall, winter, or spring retreat. There are also summer programs that allow students to use entire summers to go anywhere and live in the U.S. with 100 other students. They are given a summer job and spend evenings and weekends performing outreaches in the area. For the first half of the summer, they are ministered to but after that the leaders leave and the students are left to run the program. Also, there are overseas programs where students can stay two weeks and do outreaches, but no summer job is involved. PENN STATE BEHREND YOU HIT THE BOOKS, WE'LL BE THE COOKS!
