The ECAC named Behrend Athletics Director Brian Streeter as one of two ECAC Jostens Administrators of the Year. JoAnn Harper, senior associate director of athletics at Dartmouth College (an Ivy League school), was the other winner. The awards, which are presented to a male and female administrator every year, are given to those who are recognized for their outstanding service. The ECAC presented the awards to Streeter and Harper on Monday at the ECAC Fall Convention Honors Dinner at the Sheraton Hyannis Hotel in Centerville, Mass. "It's a true honor to be recognized by your peers, to be recognized by the ECAC," said Streeter. "It is a great recognition and I'm happy for that. Even though the award was given to me, the quality work our coaches have done are recognized through this award." Streeter is currently in his fifth year as athletics director at Behrend. Before he was hired, Streeter was the head men's basketball coach at Hobart College for 16 years while serving as assistant athletics director for the same amount of time. It4:l=A•i•Tul Streeter is one of the more active athletic directors around. Aside from his duties at Behrend, Streeter also serves on several other committees. He is a member of the ECAC Board of Directors and chairs the ECAC Championship Committee. He is also the chairman on the ECAC men's south soccer committee and the men's south basketball committee. He is also part of the selection committee for the Women's South Volleyball committee. His duties don't stop there, though. Streeter just finished serving a two-year term as the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC), which is Behrend's home conference for most of their sports teams. He is part of the NCAA women's soccer committee and the NCAA mid- Atlantic selection committee for women's softball. "There are 312 schools in the ECAC, and for myself I try to work hard and represent Penn State Behrend the best way 1 can," said Streeter. "The opportunity to work for Dr. John Lilley, Dr. Jack Burke, an,d Dr. Bob Light has been great. The postseason competition in the ECAC, as well as the weekly and yearly awards are all things that really help our student athletes." Streeter isn't a stranger to awards. He has won the Schoenfeld Regional Sportsmanship Award, which is given by college basketball officials, five times. In fact, Streeter won the award in 1995 by beating out all other coaches nationwide. In 1993, Streeter was named as the Geneva, New York, American Red Cross Volunteer of the Year. He has also been a vital part of the expansion of the athletics department, including the most-recently added teams last year men's and women's water polo. Streeter was also instrumental in Behrend's successful attempt to replace 50-year-old Erie Hall with the new, state-of-the-art Junker Center. Behrend is a member of the AMCC in every sport except swimming, water polo, and track and field. The AMCC consists of six other schools: Frostburg State, La Roche, Pitt-Bradford, Pitt-Greensburg, Penn State- Altoona, and Lake Erie College. Last year, men's soccer participated in the ECAC tournament and won their first game before losing 1-0 in round two. Women's basketball and women's soccer both made NCAA appearances, while men's cross country, women's tennis, and women's soccer all won AMCC titles. The conference stretches from Maine to Pennsylvania, but has started to expand to states outside this area. The conference includes 112 Division 1 schools, 51 Division II schools, and 149 Division 111 schools (including Behrend). The ECAC is also the largest single conference within the NCAA, the governing body of college sports. Behrend joined the conference when it became a four-year school in 1973. "What I want to accomplish in my coming years here at Behrend is to meet students' needs, as well as athletes' needs, and to provide continued recreational opportunities," said Streeter. "We're lucky to have administrative support for the athletics program and excellent coaches as well as quality student athletes who understand the value of education."
