    FRIDAY, MARCH 30, 2000
Student Government elections will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday outside Bruno’s
PRESIDENTIAL AND VICE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES...
“Unfinished business" which consists
of the student-run radio station, web page,
and left over committee work is our first
focus. These things have been in progress
for the last couple years and need to be
completed before we can move on to
bigger and better things. They are
important to us and WILL be finished next
year.
Advising is also a large problem on
campus. Many students are constantly
confused about course requirements and
offerings. Often one class inhibits a
student's graduating on lime, getting a
minor, or even a double major. There
should be an easy and more readily
available way for students to know about
their classcs/options. Our objective is to
improve the system for students so they
have more knowledge about their
education and requirements for their
major. We will take action by reaching
an agreement w ith the Directors of each
school and have student representatives
in each department. Students will be able
to go to these representatives for advice
SENATORS...
Michelle Armstrong
Hello to all Behrend freshman. My
name is Michelle Armstrong and 1 am
running for a sophomore senate
position in SGA. lam currently your
freshman senate representative. I
enjoyed working within SGA this past
year and realized what a vital role it
plays governing Penn State Erie’s
organizations and voicing student
needs. 1 believe that SGA is here to
benefit what the students want and to
have a strong and powerful voice to
back it up, and therefore actually
accomplishing the wishes of the
students. If I am re-elected to a senate
position, I can promise that you will
have a dedicated member who will
express your personal opinions and
desires in both meetings here and in
meetings at University Park, and then
fight to have something done about
it. Thank You.

As a Student Government senator for
the upcoming term, I want to highly
concentrate upon the parking situation
that troubles many of the on-campus
and commuter students. Aside from
problems that need to be resolved,
there is always the question of how
to make the campus more interesting
and fun by introducing activities and
events. 1 want to help organize what
the students want by incorporating the
students’ input with the decisions we
will make.

I would like to take this opportunity
to say “WASSUP” to all those who
supported me last year. I wanted to
do it again in order to continue my
work to give you what YOU want
.RESULTS and a VOICE (and you
know I will be the loudest). If given
the opportunity I will prove to you that
I am the one to get the job done.

on classes. Advising sheets will be put
together for each major to clarify things
that students do not understand.
We would also like to improve SGA
internally and bring more awareness about
the organization. However, SGAdoes not
always have enough participating students
in order to turn these ideas into realities.

I am a 4th semester international stu
dent here at Behrend majoring in MIS.
1 am a citizen of India but I was born
and raised in the Middle-East in a
country called the United Arab Emir
ates. The reason I am running for a
position in the SGA is because 1 feel
that with my presence I can try and
make a difference in the SGA and be
a good representative of the student
body. I also think being an interna
tional student can make a difference
as it definitely w ill bring diversity into
the SGA. If I get elected I hope to do
a good job during my term and be a
good representative of the interna
tional community and the Behrend
student community.
Kristin Grudowski
I like being involved at Behrend.
Because of my previous experience
in similar student government
organizations, I feel I will be able to
get the job done right. I’m friends
with a diverse group of people and
because of that, I believe that my
position will benefit all Behrend
students. I’m friends with Wyman
too, so vote for both of us.
Emily Wyman
I want to serve the students of Penn
State Behrend as SGA Senator
because I like to take an active role in
issues that affect Behrend students. I
enjoy interacting with people and feel
that I would do a good job at
representing you as SGA Senator. Let
your voice be heard, vote for me and
Grudowski on April 2 nd and 3 rd .

We hope to increase numbers and SGA
awareness by distributing more info about
it through magnets, fliers, and pizza
socials for students. Internally, we want

For the past two years, I have been a
Senator for SGA. I have enjoyed tak
ing part in different SGA related ac
tivities and assisting the financial
needs of Behrend’s clubs and organi
zations by working on the Budget
Committee, as well. As a Senator, I
tried to keep the best interest of the
students in mind when voting on and
discussing different issues. SGA has
given me the chance to meet and greet
people at Behrend and other places
that I would not have met otherwise.
Looking back at the past two years, I
realize what a valuable opportunity it
has been for me to serve on SGA and
that is why I ask the student body to
let me graduate next spring as a Sena
tor for SGA.

from top
to have incentives for outstanding
senators, which will hopefully draw more
involvement. We also want SGA to show
more support for other clubs and
organizations by actively participating in
events, working on advertising together,
and having more representation at SGA
meetings.
The Multicultural Council is a very
active council that puts on the majority of
events that happen on campus and needs
a lot more recognition for what they do.
We want to work closer with many of the
other councils too. For example,
Commuter Council does not have a lot of
representation on campus and, with over
half of Behrend being commuters, they
need to be focused on more.
Greek life is also very important to us.
Next year, we would like to help entertain
ideas and develop new ways to improve
Greek life. For example, SGA wants to
work with IFC/Panhellenic on THON.
THON is a 48-hour dance marathon at
State College that raises money for kids
with cancer, which is sponsored by IFC/
Panhellenic and is the largest student run
philanthropy in the world. Since we are
the only branch campus with Greek life it
is important that Behrend be well
represented. Formerly, Behrend has not
been recognized and this year WE WERE!

For tthe 2001-2002 school year our main
concern is the students. Unlike what has
been demonstrated in the past, w e want
to achieve our platform goals before the
conclusion of our term. Considering all
of the issues that concern Penn State Be

As a past member of SGA I know and understand
how SGA is run. I am a 7' h semester communications
major with experience in executive board positions.
I’ve held many positions in my sorority, Theta Phi
Alpha, including recording secretary, which mirrors
the position of SGA secretary. 1 am confident that 1
can fulfill the duties of this ottice. I have been
involved in many organizations here at Behrend and
I am capable of working in groups with other people.
plished goal, but we believe we can
come very close to doing so. We real
ize that there is much dissatisfaction
with the way in which money is allo
cated to clubs and organizations by
SGA. Our focus is to reform the budget
process so that priority is given to events
I am st) proud to have represented you this year as your SGA senalot, so
much that I desire the position of SGA secretary. I have the experience ol
working at the Office of Student Activities as a staff assistant during the
summer and fall of 2000 and this spring. I am also very active within other
clubs and organizations here at school anti as well as in church. My mam
purpose is to serve our student government any way possible. 1 want your
voice to be heard. My dedication will prevail in everything that I do. If
you feel that there are things that need to be changed, I am the woman to
get the job done. Let me be your "Bridge" to the other sitlel
that occur on campus and benefit a w ide
range of students, as opposed to events
that take place off campus and only ben
efit a limited number of students. We
would also like to give students a chance
to get involved with SGA. and see what
the organization is all about. Increas
ing SGA's involvement in campus
events is also of high priority for us.
Working with the faculty and advising
staff to improve the quality of academic
advising on campus is also very impor
tant. Working towards the creation ol
tin online course selection guide is a goal
we would like to see accomplished lor
spring semester 2002. Ol course, the

such as the student radio station and web

we wish to address during our term of
office, and we are always striving to
