The team kicked off their season at the Clarion Invitational, competing against several District II schools from Pennsylvania and Ohio. Due to the blustery cold weather, many of the schools that were scheduled to compete withdrew from the competition. Despite the unwelcome weather, Lindsay Schulte came home the lone winner in the 200- meter, clocking in at 27.64. For the men’s team, Greg Cooper ran a strong 400-meter race for Behrend. Andrea Sanko and Tyler Travis competed well for Behrend in the 5000- meter. Schulte confirmed, “No one could compete to their full potential because of the weather. I think the rest of the season will go really well, both the women’s and men’s teams have a lot of talent.” “We did ok. We were cautious and cancelled some of our events, and it was difficult to do anything real significant since the cold and wind really made it hard to perform at our best.” Without the luxury of an indoor facility to compete in, the outdoor track and field team must also face difficult obstacles dealing with unpredictable weather,” stated Coach Rich Hoffman. With strong and determined athletes to their advantage, the Behrend track team is hopeful for a good season. For this group of athletes, bad weather and stiff competition is merely a challenge that is to be conquered. Their next meet is Saturday, March 30, at Geneva College for the Merriman/Butler Invitational. NATIONAL SPORTS Eastern Conferei W L T OL 42 18 12 3 40 23 11 2 37 27 9 2 Atlantic Devils Phil. Pitt.
