Spada's serves the Italian dish of your wish
by Karl Benacci
features co-editor
Not long ago, I had the opportunity
to have dinner at Spada's Restaurant,
which is located on West Ridge Road.
When I entered the restaurant, I
noticed that it was rather plain;
however, it still had a nice atmosphere.
I also noticed that there were a number
of rooms to dine in, including a lounge.
My party and I were seated in a
pleasantly decorated room, where we
quickly decided what to order. As the
name hints, Spada's is an Italian
restaurant, with a broad selection of
meals to choose from.
For myself, I decided to order a
calzone filled with pepperoni and
cheese, and one of my friends and I
agreed to share a cheese pizza. The
wait was somewhat long for our food;
however, there were a lot of customers
in the restaurant that night, so the delay
was justifiable. Besides, the food was
worth the wait. The calzone that I had

For weeks, my fiancé, David, and I
had been planning on attending a
Pittsburgh Penguins game over winter
break. When we realized that our
tickets were for Mario Lemieux's first
game returning to the ice, we were
more than ecstatic. After hearing this
news, we decided to make a day out
On the morning of December 27, all
the news coverage seemed to be about
Mario Lemieux and an upcoming
winter storm. Well, needless to say,
we decided that no weather warning
was going to stop us. After being in
the car for over two hours, we decided
it was time to make a stop.
Our first stop was at Media Play in
Monroeville. After perusing the store
shelves we realized that everything
was even more overpriced than at the
same store in Erie. Next stop, a pet
store. We opened the door to go in
but such an overpowering stench came
out of the door that we decided to not
even enter the store. When we
regained consciousness, we decided to
find a place to eat.
We drove to Harmarville and

Open Mic Night
by Jermaine Hardy
features co-editor
The Penn State Behrend Campus
possesses a lot of talent, and it was
displayed last Friday, February 26, at
an event called "Open Mic Night." In
efforts to provide students with more
on campus activities, Behrend's Lion
Entertainment Board presented this
event. From 8 p.m. to 9 p.m., Bruno's
provided an audience and stage set
ting for the students of Behrend to
showcase their talents and express
their artistic abilities. Taking the stage
were students presenting all forms of
talent, from playing instruments, to
singing, to reading poetry. Some of
the performances included musical
selections by the Behrend Jazz
Combo, a dramatic monologue by
John Hodges, and a vocal perfor
mance by co-host Angela Majoris.
As hosts, Angela Majoris and
Leanne Acklin kept the audience in
terested with comic relief from Acklin
and motivation from Majoris, who
often toured the audience to lure tal
ent onto the stage. The entertainment
was free as well as the pretzels and
ordered was absolutely huge! I
quickly dug into it, and was quite
pleased with what I found. Not
only was the calzone completely
filled with pepperoni sauce and
cheese, but it also tasted
magnificent! I only ate half of it,
(it was so good that I took the other
half home in a doggy bag) so that I
could eat some of the pizza that I
had ordered.
The cheese pizza wasn't bad.
However, it wasn't anything to
write home about. It was a pretty
big pizza and it tasted fine, but I've
had better.
By the end of the night I was so
stuffed, and I felt as if I needed one
of my friends to cart me out of the
restaurant with a wheelbarrow.
Although their prices aren't ex
actly dirt cheap, I would advise all
fans of Italian food (especially
calzones) to dine at Spada's Res
taurant. I give them *** stars.
thought it would be a great idea to
see what Fuddruckers would be
like. After all, we had heard that
they had good food. The food was
good; however, the whole
restaurant was filled with a busload
of teenyboppers in town for a
soccer tournament. We finished
our food in a hurry and decided that
we should get to Pittsburgh before
anything really devastating
happened.
Our plans for the afternoon were
to go to Eides. We looked through
the music and movies, but spent
most of the time going through the
vast boxes of comic books. They
had the usual, but I found some old
issues of Masters of the Universe
with He-man and Skeletor. I
couldn't pass those issues up, so I
broke down and spent some of my
money. We decided that it was time
to leave Eides and head for Mellon
Arena when I saw one too many
really strange people.
As soon as we entered the arena
you could just smell the excitement
in the air. From that point, I knew
popcorn
Bruno's made for a comfortable
as well as well as entertaining at
mosphere as students sat on the
rear tabletop to get the best view
of the show. The event marks a
stepping-stone as far as Behrend
entertainment is concerned, as it is
the second L.E.B. event this year
that attracted more than fifty stu
dents. The first event was a show,
which featured a band called the
Distorted Penguins, two weeks
ago. Commenting on the turnout
of "Open Mic Night," Acklin,
L.E.B's night club chair person
stated, "we are getting more posi
tive feedback." Also commenting
on the event, Majoris, L.E.B's
National Concert Committee Chair
Person said, "it was a really great
student turnout. The variety was
wonderful." As "Open Mic
Night" in the Bruno's was a suc
cessful event, the Lion Entertain
ment Board looks to host more of
such events to entertain the many
students on campus who look for
fun things to do.

Penguins game
it was going to be an exhilarating
game. Just when we got acquainted
with all the people around us, the
usher realized that we were in the
wrong seats, and we had to move
over one section. So we moved, and
what do you know, a guy that was
literally 8 feet tall sits/stands in front
of me. It turned out to be not too
terrible because every time he ran
out of beer, it took him at least 15
minutes to return with another one.
From our seats, we were able to see
the whole length of the ice, so we
did not miss any of the action. I
swear it was the fastest hockey game
I have ever watched! There really
is a big difference between watching
the game on TV and actually being
there. I'm sure that everyone knows
that we won 5-0.
I would tell you about the ride
home in the snow blizzard, but that
would be another story...
