a rather successful season
nomination for Good was her third
consecutive year as a member of the
all-conference team.
This tournament also improved the
individual statistics of the team.
Good, the lone senior, proved her
leadership with 293 kills and 583 digs
for the season. Bemis, an outstanding
asset to the team, contributed 247 kills
and 423 digs. Engelbert led the team
in blocking with 59,32 of which were
solo. Walters assisted the hitters a
total of 890 times throughout the
season. These individual efforts,
along with their teamwork, proved to
be successful for the Lady Lions.
Good’s efforts at the tournament let
her slide past Carrie Grzejka, who had
the career record for kills with 1027.
Good set the new record 1 above
Grzejka with 1028. Good also has the
career record with 1621 digs.
Seniors Jen O’Lare and Lisa
Sanders lead the team. There are four
juniors on the team, as well as four
sophomores. Six freshmen made the
team.
The men’s team made it to the
NCAA’s Elite Eight last season and
finished the year with a 26-4 record.
Still many questions arise about the
team. There is a core group of
experienced players that could help
maintain a high level of success. If
the team were to make the postseason
this year it would be the fifth year in a
row.
“We are very young. The veterans
will have to play well until we gain
some experience," stated Coach Dave
Niland.
Ashley Orris is the only senior on
the team. Matt Keith is one of three
juniors. There is one sophomore and
ten freshmen that made it onto the
2000-2001 squad. The men’s team
also plays a scrimmage on Saturday
versus Guelph on Saturday.
The Behrend Lion will be out to
pump students up tonight.
The volleyball team lost to Frostburg in the AMCC Championship
game.
