l•ntortunately, Behrend was not
able to capture the conference
tournament crown, like last year.
They were defeated by Pitt-
Greensburg 49-43 in the
tournament finale on Saturday,
February 26.
Behrend was down 5-0 two
minutes into the game and never
led during the entire contest.
Woeful shooting and a key injury
doomed the Lions, who, besides
a stretch to start the second half,
never were able to put together a
run to overtake Greensburg. The
Lions shot 30% (15/50), including
lr; (2/19) from the three-point
line, for the game. Senior forward
and team captain Nate Willson

left the game with an injury
midway through the first half and
did not return.
Behrend was down 27-16 at the
half, but opened the second half
with a 10-2 run, and the score was
29-26 with 15:12 to play. From
that point on, though, Greensburg
held Behrend at bay and pulled out
the 49-43 victory.
"You're not going to win them
all," said forward and senior Andy
Lawrence. "It's college
basketball, and things are going to
go wrong. I mean, it was a bad
day shooting, everybody got into
foul trouble, we lost Nate, it was
just everything that could go
wrong did. And it was just one of
those days.-
SPORTS
Behrend head coach Dave
Niland agreed "It just wasn't our
day. Getting hurt, us missing lay
ups early on and then missing lay
ups late, missing a couple of key
free throws; unfortunately, you're
going to have stretches like that.
Ours was exaggerated over an
extended period of time. And when
that happens against a team like
Greensburg, you're probably not
going to win."
Center Chris Hughes led the
team with a game-high 20 points,
but no other Behrend player scored
more than five. Hughes had eight
rebounds, and Lawrence had seven
hoards. Normally sharp-shooting
guard Matt Keith typified
Behrend's shooting struggles,

Behrend's game versus La
Roche was an eagerly anticipated
contest. La Roche had knocked
Behrend out of last year's AMCC
tournament, and, most likely,
ended their run at even greater
things. Keith said that that game
was on the player's minds this
year.
"Very much. I mean, we don't
speak about stuff like that too
much, but coach let us know
before the game, and we've been
looking forward to [that] one. We
found out we played La Roche,
and we were all pumped up. The
