The Behrend men made the last
regular season home game at Erie Hall
one to remember, winning a defensive
battle over Pitt-Greensburg 54-45 on
Senior Night, Wednesday night.
The win, Behrend's 12th straight,
improved the men's record to 21- 2
overall, and 11-0 in conference play.
The team's 21 wins ties the record, set
last year, for overall wins in a season.
Over 500 fans were packed, stand
ing-room only, into Erie Hall, high
lighting the need for the new Athlet
ics and Recreation Center, where
Behrend will begin playing its home
games next season. But it also pro
vided a great environment for the
game.
"It was a nice crowd here tonight."
said Behrend Head Coach Dave
Niland. "A great college atmosphere,
I think the kids were excited to play,
and they knew we were playing a
good team."
"It's just a great atmosphere," said
senior forward John Park. "I don't
even think you could stand in the gym.
It was packed and it was great. It's a
great place to play."
Senior night got off to a shaky start,
as Behrend found themselves behind
for a good part of the first half. Scor
ing was slow, and Behrend was down
18-13 with 8:44 to play. An Ashley
Orris three-pointer from the top of the
circle evened the score 18-18 with
6:54 to play. Orris finished with four
points, and had a game-high six as
sists.

Behrend led by two at
the break, 29-27.
The trend continued
for the first minutes of
the second half as well,
and with 9:57 to play,
Behrend led 41-40.
From that point, though,
the Behrend defense
took over, limiting Pitt-
Greesburg to a pair of
foul shots and a single
three-pointer for the rest
of the way.
Seniors Andy
Lawrence and Chris
Hughes scored
Behrend's next eight
points, and outscored
Greensburg 8-1 during
that stretch. The lead
was 49-42 with 1:27 left
in the game. Orris and
forward Andy Berchtold
hit free throws down the
stretch to seal the win.
"It was a big game,"
commented Park. "We
knew we had to bring
our 'A' game to the court
today.
Coach Niland added,
"I thought we defended
very well, and I thought
we executed down in the last five
minutes when we had to. We made
mistakes, but not many."
The four seniors all played pivotal
roles in the win. Lawrence scored
eight points, had five rebounds and
three assists. Hughes had 22 points
on 10 of 15 shooting, and grabbed
six boards. Park scored seven and
