THE BEHREND BEACON OVER THE EDGE Tiffany Buck has been named this week's Housing and Food Service Athlete of the Week. She is the start ing shooting guard for the 13-5 women's basketball team. The Behrend Lions are also atop the AMCC with a 6-0 record. In the conference win over the FSU Bobcats, Buck hit 3 of 5 from trey land en route to eleven points. She also earned 2 steals and 2 assists. Against Pitt-Greensburg she was 5 of 12 from the field and 4 of 8 from three-point range for 14 points. On the season, Buck has made 40 of 91 for 44 percent. She currently aver ages 8.8 points per game and 2.6 re bounds per game. Buck is the woman's leader in 3's made with 167, and is third in Behrend history for 3's made behind Don Flyer's ( '9O-94) 196, and Dave Gurska's ( 'B7 -90) 187. The win in Erie Hall gave the men a perfect 6-0 conference record, and improved their overall record to 15- 2. Behrend used advantages in size and numbers to turn away Lake Erie, who dressed only seven players, only one of which was taller than Lake Erie scored the first two baskets of the game, and led 5-0 at the 17:44 mark in the first half. Behrend responded by scoring the next 17 points of the game, including a pair of guard Matt Keith three pointers, and had a comfortable 17- 5 lead with 11:45 to play. Keith finished the night with 12 points, making four of ten three-point attempts, and also had four assists. Lake Erie refused to hack down, and the two teams exchanged baskets for the remainder of the half, with Behrend holding a 36-25 lead going into the locker room. "Lake Erie, although they were down in numbers, always plays us very tough," said Behrend Head Coach Dave Niland. Behrend turned it up a notch to start the second half, however, starting with an 11-4 run to open up a 49-29 lead with 16:43 to play. Center Chris Hughes scored 6 points during the run "We wanted to conic out and not give them any chance to come hack," Behrend 13-5; Hughes said. Hughes finished the night with a team-high 23 points, and also grabbed four rebounds. Behrend shot 63% (19-30 from the floor), including 45% (5- 11) three-pointers, in the second half, putting to rest any hopes Lake Erie had for a comeback Forwards Andy Lawrence and Nate Willson scored 14 points each, and grabbed ten and five rebounds respectively. Forward John Park contributed seven points and nine rebounds. The Behrend men have seven games left on the schedule, six of which are against AMCC opponents. Five of these last seven games are also on the road. "That will certainly he a tough stretch over the next month," Coach Niland commented.
