The week began on Monday night with the sack race that took the place of the scheduled marshmallow eat ing contest. The first place winner of the race for the sororities was Theta Phi, and, for the fraternities, TKE. "I liked the sack race better than the marshmallow eating contest; it's more entertaining than watching someone stuff themselves with marsh mallows,- said Judd Hornstein, 05 Mathematics, current member of ZBT. Tuesday night a - Tuff man, Tuff woman" contest was held at 5:30. For the first part of the competition, par ticipants had to pick up a tire and throw it as far as they could. First place winner for the sororities was Carrie Spaulding, and, for the fraternities, was Glen Gausman of TKE. After it is over, the winner of all of the compe titions combined will be announced, and so will the winners of the Greek God and Goddess competition. The contestants for that competition are Paul Moore, TKE; Christian Strub, SKN; Kevin Mink, DC; Josh Meals, KDR; Chris Chimera, ZBT; Dan Denning,STG;Erika Weissenfluh,QFA; Liz Steck, ASA; and Erin Baker, AST. The competi tion was sponsored by QFA. The win ners are chosen by good and bad votes. Pennies and dollars are con sidered good votes, and silver change is considered bad votes - all of which have been being placed in jars on a table outside of Bruno's. The bad votes will be deducted from the good when they are totaled up in the end. Jake's Blues continued from front page The bassist gave a brief overview of what the band had done prior to the Behrend show, which included playing Tune Town and participat ing at the original Woodstock site just this past summer with country greats Reba McEntire and Randy Travis. Banta spoke about what the future has in store for Jake's Blues, com menting on his recent trip to New York City to cut a deal for the hand. He also mentioned a gig at Cross Creek (route 8 in Titusville) to take place within the next few weeks. Jake's Blues definitely left an im pression on the Behrend crowd, es pecially and unexpectedly at the end of the show. The resulting effect was a collage of in sane reverbs, ranging from the screechy horror kind to the scratchy record hip-hop deal to even some sort of strange UFO sound (well, at least the way they sound on TV anyway). Jake's Blues clearly gave Be hrend a reason to sit outside and brave the fall chill. The long applause at the end of their show verified the crowd's approval, and as the crazy noises from the stage finally died out, the audience was left with the viva cious aftertaste of the spirit of rock (disgustingly mixed with that of apple cider).
