The Associa tion of Black Collegians (ABC) spon sored their annual gala Saturday night at 7:00 pan in the Reed Commons. This event gave students, faculty, and staff the chance to end the year with honor and recognition. Minority stu dents with a grade point average of 2.75 or above were awarded certifi cates of achievement. "As a recipient of the achievement award, it gave me great pleasure to be so honored by my peers and staff.” stilted Donald Adams. 09 BLASC. Awards of appreciation were also given to those who helped make the gala a complete success. They allowed the audience to participate in their song and dance while entertain ing them as well. Safatace's elabo rate. colorful costumes and props added a finishing touch to the spir ited atmosphere. The speaker, Elvage Murphy, Esq., was a Human Relations Programmer at Behrend in the Fall of 1988. He is now an assistant district attorney for Erie County. Murphy spoke on the progress we. as a people, need to make in order to enhance the world we live in. In Murphy's words. “From this moment on, never pass up the op portunity to speak to each other With God. all things are possible." 'Phis atmosphere, with the color and the Harambee Dinner. The Harambee Dinner is scheduled lor September 15 at 6:50 pm in the Reed Commons. The Ice Cream Social and Fall Dance are during orientation on Saturday. The dinner was provided by Behrend's own Housing and Food Services. “I'm glad that the ABC gala was a success. The hard work and dedication of all those involved made this event possible. The rest of the E-board and I are going to do what we can to help increase cultural awareness across the Behrend cam pus. Along with cosponsoring all of the activities that will go through the MCC and doing my best to represent the MCC in the confines of the SGA, increasing cultural awareness across the campus is my biggest priority. Also, 1 would like to Find a better way to promote MCC to the students as a whole, because 1 have found that most people are intimidated by the MCC. That is another important goal to me. I am sure we will find a way to do these things as the fall semes ter draws closer."
