Those who have not reviewed a contract package should go and ob tain one from the Housing and Food Services office. In the past, contracts were accepted in hopes that Housing would be able to offer housing to all students return- ing contracts. Seale told several stories about the BPP. He told stories to show the equality between male and female members of the BPP. His stories also explained how the BPP evolved. Following his round table discussion, a dinner was held in Reed Commons. Throughout the dinner the Behrend Gospel Choir "Ultimate Praise." After the dinner, Seale gave a lecture in Reed 117. Russell John Baptiste, 04 MIS, introduced Seale. Seale began the lecture with the first time he heard Dr. King speak in 1962. The rally was about boycotting Wondcrbread. Scale was in the United States Air Force from 1955 until 1959. In 1962. Seale began learning about his Afro-American heritage. He was influenced to do this by a friend who was in a street corner rally. It was after the death of Malcolm X that Scale and his friend Hewey Newton began to form the BPP. After writing the Ten Point program. Seale and Newton took the first two paragraphs of the United States Constitution, paraphrased them, then put them at the end of the Ten Points. In the beginning, the BPP raised funds to get guns by selling the "little red book" that contained the ideas of Mao- Tse Tong. "They sold like hotcakes. But we had never read it" Settle said. After getting guns and members, the leaders began training the members to use the guns. Seale then told a story about the first time the BPP went out into the community. They observed a police officer giving out a ticket. When the more contracts than space available. Housing and Food Services asks everyone to turn in their own housing contract. Students should bring their i.d. with them when turn ing in their contract. For the first time, single rooms will be available in Ohio Hall. In order to reeieve this type of housing your con tract must read “single" under hall and room choices. Seale said that the difference between the BPP and other organizations was the fact that they had multi-leadership. He like to think of the BPP as “an extension of Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, and Nelson Mandela." After his lecture there was a Question and Answer session. Several questions were asked including one about how he felt about the whole Clinton situation. "I could care less about Clinton getting into some sex. The Republican's arc just mad because Clinton kicked their booties." Seale said. Several students had comments about Bobby Scale. "1 think the speaker was great. 1 do not care where you come from, your race, color, ethnicity, or social standing. Fveryone could have learned something from Bobby Seale. His idea of being a 'progressive humanist' should be understood and strived by all." Scott Miller. ('4. Plastics Fngineering Technology "Being able to actually come face to lace with a co-founder ol the Black Panther Party was an honor. While listening to his speech. 1 could actually feel the vibes of that time. I acknowledge Bobby Seale tor correcting those mistakes that were portrayed in the Panther's movie. I also learned that through his willingness to do whatever he was able to win justice. I do believe that because of Seale's willingness to go to the extent and even take a more detailed look into a situation, he was willing to reach justice. This year the contract submission has been moved to Reed Commons, but only for the first morning at 9:30 p.m., Sunday, January 24. The Com mons wil be open so the line can be gin. The doors will be closing at 7:30 a.m., Monday, January 25. Contracts will be accepted at 8:00 a.m. in the Housing office in Dobbins through 5:00 p.m., Friday, January 29. Housing and Food Services would like to remind everyone that this is for on-campus residents only. Off campus students that want to move on-campus must fill out a wait list card in the Housing office. He showed me a different view of the Black Panther Party than I had been exposed to. He was very informative and I am glad that I had the chance to meet such a wonderful and intelligent man.” Randy Rowles, 05 Communications, said, “I found the lecture by Bobby Seale both profound and motivating. It was nice to hear from someone with real initiative and desire to make things better." Matt Elias, 05 Meteorology, said, “I thought Bobby Seale had many interesting things to say about the Black Panther Party. He made clear to me that most of the misconceptions about the party are not true. I think he is a very intelligent man and I would like to see him return to Behrend as a speaker in the future.” Erika Forde, 04 Psychology, said, "I felt Bobby Seale was an inspiration to all. He enlightened myself and many others about the true meaning behind the Black Panthers. Michael Ross. 02 PI SC, said,” Bobby Seale was the best speaker I have ever heard in a long time. He helped all of us get a better understanding of what Black History Month means to him. As well as that, he explained why and how he and Hewey Newton started the Black Panther Party. He was just an amazing speaker, because he told the stories the way they happend, word for word." Police and Safety left a message with her to call them, but she has not done so yet. 1/14/99 Complainant reported the door to their apartment had frozen shut and they could not get out. They had called housing but no one answered the phone. The message was delivered to housing who will get a mainte nance worker there right away. 1/14/99 Burglar alarm at the bookstore went off. Manager arrived and the store was secured. What did you get out of the Martin Luther King Celebration? “ I have never seen the Martin Luther King speech in its entirety.” “ I got a greater understanding of what happend in the past.
