All full-time faculty and staff: We are now capturing photos and signa tures of all faculty and staff for new ID+ cards. Cards currently in circu lation will not work beginning with Summer Session 1998. Phase out will begin as early as May 10. This ID card is needed for Dobbins Ga zebo, Bruno’s, the Library, and build ing and room access at all Common wealth College locations and Univer sity Park. Banking options may be available as early as Fall 1998. Stu dent photo capture will begin April 1, 1998. We strongly encourage all full-time faculty and staff to have their photos taken prior to April 1 to avoid long lines in August. ID+cards will be distributed April 27. If you have an interim ID from the new sys tem (white card), it is not necessary to have your picture retaken. We will print your photo on the new stock and distribute it on April 27. The ID of fice is located on the second floor of the Reed Building, overlooking the Wintergarden. Students will receive an offer from AT&T for a calling card number to be printed on the ID+ card. The post card must be returned to the ID of fice to indicate whether you want to participate in the program. This is a 1+ card for use anywhere in the world. This option will not replace the ACUS 0+ based systems now in place for residence hall students. Signing up for the calling card will give you $lO.OO free calling (for 60 days after sign up), and a free one year membership to the Student Ad vantage (a national student discount program). For the second time, Behrend will be offering AAAS 146\ The Life and Thought of Martin Luther King Jr. during Fall 1998. The course, last taught during Spring 1997, was very popular with students. It fulfills ei ther the general humanities or the di- versity requirement for graduation The Spring 1998 Commencement ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 16 at noon. In case of inclem ent weather, two ceremonies will be held. The first will begin at noon in Erie Hall and the second will begin at 2:30 p.m. The Office of Police and Safety, ODK, and Alpha Sigma Alpha will be holding a Charity Drive through out 1998. Among the items needed are clothing for men, women, and children; blankets and sleeping bags; good, used toys; new sealed tooth brushes; and boxed or bagged dia pers. Items can be dropped off at the Office of Police and Safety on Jor dan Road. Please have all items in bags or boxes. Penn State’s Creamery, renowned for its delicious flavors throughout Lion Country and beyond, has agreed to let Penn State-Behrend rename one of its flavors on a temporary basis in celebration of Penn State-Behrend at 50: A Golden Opportunity. Students, faculty, staff alumni and friends are invited to submit ideas for both the flavor and the name in the Name the Ice Cream Contest. Entrants can se lect from these flavors: Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry, Peach, But ter Pecan, Bittersweet Mint, Peanut Butter Swirl and Coconut Chip. For inspiration consider the following: famous Behrend personalities includ ing Ernst, Mary or Otto, buildings and programs at Behrend; and the fact that for the first several years at Penn State-Behrend, the fields at the campus entrance were laden with wild strawberries. Who are the "STARS" at Penn State- Behrend? The "STARS" program was piloted here at Behrend in the fall '96 semester. Since then it has grown from being a trial program, to a full operation using our own database software. What do the "STARS" do? The program is designed to make use of the telephone as a recruitment, fol low-up, and retention medium in conjunction with traditional recruit ment programs.
