Applications are now being accepted for editorial positions on The Collegian (soon to be the
Beacon) for the 1998-99 academic year
POSITIONS INCLUDE:
Editor in Chief - oversees all aspects of the newspaper, in charge of public relations
Managing Editor - second in comand on the newspaper, oversees all text and photography
Business Manager - accounting and bookkeeping for the paper, budget proposals
Advertising Manager - in charge of ad sales staff, oversees commisions
News Editor - oversees Behrend news section
Features Editor - in charge of features pages
Sports Editor - in charge of sports
Layout Editor - in charge of layout, graphical design, must
Photography Editor - oversees photography staff
Wire Service Editor - in charge of the newswire pages
Editorial Page Editor - oversees the editorial page
Associate Editor - in charge of the Calendar, Question of the Week, and Police and Safety Report
Applicants for the Editor in Chief position should prepare a written statement of their journalistic qualifications, editorial
philosophy, their assessment of the current strengths and weaknesses of The Collegian and their plans for the organization of
staff members. Editor in Chief applicants should submit their statements to Dr. Chris Reber in the Office of Student Affairs.
Applicants for all other editorial positions should send a paragraph with their interest and qualifications to The Collegian
offices in the Reed Building or to BEHRCOLLS@aoI.com.
The Collegian is also seeking editorial columnists for the Fall 1998 semester. Interested students should send a sample col
umn to The Collegian by mail or by email.
Students interested in working on the news, features, sports, photography, or advertising staff next year are also welcome to
contact The Collegian at this time.
Applications for all editorial positions and columnists are due by Friday, April 3 at 5:00 pm
All Editors can earn 2 or 3 course credits

through the School of Business
