There is not a captains meeting . 4 vs 4 COED VOLLEYBALL Lady Lions looking to finish strong Women go into the last two games seeking to host AMCC champoinship by Dylan Stewart sports editor The Penn State - Behrend women's basketball team jumped back on track this week, as they scored a big come from behind victory on the road against Allegheny, while also pound ing Lake Erie at home. The two wins improve the Lady Lions record to 16 -6, while moving their AMCC mark to 6 - 2. The Lady Lions are looking sharp as they enter the final week of their regular season, with a home game Saturday against Pitt - Greensburg and road contest Monday against Pitt - Bradford. In order for the Lions to host the AMCC championship, they must win their final two games. Otherwise, they will be forced to travel away for the AMCC tournament. The week stated out with a 56 - 47 victory against Allegheny. "It was a very big comeback win for us," said head coach Roz Fornari. "Carrie Nestor kept us in it all game long, and Kim Moses came up with photo by Jason Blake Sports big steals at the end," said Fornari. The Lady Lions greatly improved their shooting this time around as they shot 44% from the field for the game, while shooting an impressive 52% in the second half. The Lions pressure defense was again in effect, as they held Allegh eny to 31% shooting for the game and "It was a very big comeback win for us." only 25% in the second half. Maybe the biggest turning point of the game occurred when junior guard Maria Madigan buried a clutch three pointer in the second half, to put Be hrend ahead of Allegheny for the for the first time all game. From that point on, the Lions never again lost the lead. "Maria Madigan is clutch," said teammate Kim Moses. "We took the lead and never looked Experience and play lands Marini Senior Emily Marini is one key rea son for the Penn State-Behrend women's basketball team's success this season, and is also this week's Housing and Food Services Athlete of the Week. The talented 5' 6" forward has been one of the team's leaders all season, helping to lead them to a 15-6 overall record, and a 6-2 record in the AMCC. Marini came up big in both of Behrend's games this week. In their 53-42 loss to Grove City a week ago, she netted eleven points, also pulling down eleven rebounds. On the road against Allegheny Col lege three days later, Emily again had a productive day, scoring ten points to help Behrend to a 56-47 victory over the Gators. "We actually evolved our offense around Emily in the last ten minutes of that game," said head coach Rosalyn Fornari about the Allegheny game. "Emily always comes up big for us," she added. "When she's on, she's tough to stop." Teammate Carrie Nestor said, "I really admire Emily for all her years of hard work. She's a great athlete, and a great leader to our team." An Erie native, Emily attended Mercyhurst Prep, where she played both basketball and tennis. Emily, a BLASC major, is in her senior year here at Behrend. She is looking forward to next fall, when she will travel to Italy to study interna tional business, with a focus on man- agement When not on the court or in the classroom, Emily works at Zurn In dustries. In her spare time, she en joys reading and listening to Jimmy Buffett. Nestor wasn't without help as teammate Kim Moses also had a huge game with 10 points, a team high 9 rebounds, and a equally impressive 7 steals. Nestor and Moses combined for 14 of the team's 19 total steals. Also contributing to the win were Emily Marini with 10 points, and Jen O'Lare with 9 points and 7 rebounds. Last night the Lions took advan tage of an outmatched Lake Erie squad, as they won by a score of 70 - 28. Almost everyone got a piece of the action, as the Lions placed 11 of 13 players in the scoring column. "It's real easy to come out flat when you're going up against a team that you know you are much better than," said Fornari. "The way we were shooting the three, you would have thought Reggie Miller was in the building," said Kim Moses. "We just wanted to execute on both offense and defense, and we did just that," added Tiffany Buck. Freshman forward Jen 0' Lare seemed to go the spiritual route when explaining the team's recent play, "we are using our inner drive right now," explained Supernovich. Maria Madigan led the scoring col umn with 17 points, including 5 three - pointers. Lisa Sanders and Carrie Nestor knocked in 12 and 9 points respectively, while Kim Moses came up with 8 points and 4 steals. Tiffany Buck also added a team high 8 re bounds and 5 assists. The Lady Lions last home game will be held this Saturday against Pitt - Greensburg at 6:00 p.m. Saturday will also he senior night for the Lady Lions.
