Thursday, January 22, 1998 Lady Lions on a roll Lions avenge previous losses to move record ahead to 11-2 by Dylan Stewart sports editor Revenge seemed to he the theme of the Penn State - Behrend women's basketball team this past week, as they avenged their only two losses of the year to both Frostburg State and Washington & Jefferson. By defeating the only two teams that have beaten the Lions this year thus far, the Lady Lions proved that they are capable of defeating anybody on their schedule at any given time. The wins moved the Lions overall record to 11-2, while also knocking their AMCC record to 2-0. The first victory for the Lady Li ons came against Washington & Jefferson on the 17th of January, by a score of 73 -58. The Lions had been beaten very handily by rival Washington & Jefferson earlier in the year on the road by a score of 72 - 41. Following that contest, senior captain Emily Marini was quoted as saying, "we didn't come to play. They are a very beatable team," she added. By the looks of that score, that state ment might have seemed a bit hard to believe. Then again, Marini seemed to know what she was talking about back in early December, as she and the rest of the Lady Lions backed up that statement big, in rout to a 15 point Intramural Roundup POINT SYSTEM STANDINGS Fall 1997 FRATERNITY Sigma Tau Gamma Mil 85 all 100 340 80 113 175 115 1196 Delta Chi 10 150 45 140 130 80 55 120 45 775 Zeta Beta Tau 25 60 45 85 120 80 420 120 75 1030 Tau Kappa Epsilon 65 35 30 50 100 35 235 145 40 730 0 5 55 0 0 35 0 25 35 155 Sigma Kappa Nu INDEPENDENT Rush Violators 113 145 130 250 180 165 335 155 160 1633 Jolly Ranchers 45 195 35 90 100 0 170 215 85 935 Scrubs 23 0 45 40 160 45 208 120 75 716 Niagara 28 0 65 25 0 25 0 85 0 228 Mustangs 18 0 45 0 0 65 83 5 50 266 RESIDENCE HALL Perry 2 0 0 35 105 120 35 5 0 0 300 Niagara 1 West 0 0 0 30 0 0 0 0 0 30 Perry 1 0 0 0 0 0 55 0 0 35 90 Porcupine 10 0 0 20 0 35 0 140 0 205 TIVOTIZSTS---11111111111111111111111111.11111111111111111.1111111111. "It was a great win for us," said sophomore guard Tiffany Buck. "They are big rivals for us. We played a great team game, and much more aggressive than the last meeting," she added. Tiffany Buck and Nikki Schultz led the scoring with 19 points apiece, with Buck knocking in 5 three-pointers. Also contributing in the scoring attack was Kim Moses with 8 points and 3 assists. Next up for the Lady Lions was "Defense was the key." AMCC rival Frostburg State. On the 10th of January, the Lions traveled to Frostburg and got smacked by a score of 75 - 41. After a loss like that, it might be hard to believe that the Lady Lions could rebound just a week later for a victory at home against the same team. Surprise! Whether it be the home court advantage or just a nasty fetish for revenge, the Lady Lions came out Tennis and thumped Frostburg by a score of 57 - 50. The Lady Lions proved once again that they are not a team to be counted out, as they pulled a 41 point turnaround from the last meeting with Frostburg. "Defense was the key," said senior Emily Marini. "Kim Moses came up big for us in the second half," said senior Angie Georg. Sophomore Kim Moses scored 15 points, snagged 7 rebounds, and had three steals, while senior Emily Marini scored 9 points and pulled down 7 boards. Tiffany Buck and Nikki Schultz each contributed seven points, while Carrie Nestor had six assists. Behrend led 18 - 17 at the half, but Frostburg gained a 38-34 lead with 7:42 to play. Moses then went to work, hitting a 3-pointer and then going coast-to-coast after a steal to put the Lady Lions on top for good, 39-38. Frostburg hung around for a while, trailing by three points with just 38 seconds on the clock. Nestor then con verted three free throws and Moses sank one to put the game away.
