Despite missing Behrend defeats by Dylan Stewart sports editor The Penn State - Behrend men's basketball team finished up a solid week by defeating AMCC conference foe Frostburg State by a score of 76- 59. The win broke a three game los ing streak for the Lions, moving their overall record to 7-5, and a 1-1 mark in the AMCC. The Lions, forced to play without starters Andy Lawrence(ankle injury) and John Park(family death), threw together a 17-4 run in the last five minutes of the first half to change a two-point deficit (22-20) into an I 1 point advantage at intermission. Frostburg State had rallied to within five points of the Lions with four min utes remaining in the game, before Behrend pulled away with a 20-8 explosion to finally pull away. Frostburg fell to 5-6 on the year, while moving their AMCC mark to 0-2. "We were in a little bit of dis array because of the situation of Jack Park passing away (Sunday). "He (John Park's father) was very close to the program here at Behrend. They live only a short distance away from the campus and the kids were there a lot. We were also without John, who is one of our fiery leaders on the floor. "So, I didn't know how we would come out emotionally for this game. You never do know with guys who are 18 and 19. So , I didn't know how we would respond." "We knew," added Niland, "that Frostburg was going to come out and pressure us and get into us. "So, we knew we would have to protect the ball, and we did that , most of the night. "We also knew we had to try and get real good shots, and we did that, most of the night (the 50 percent fig ure proves that). The only setback the Lions suffered during the week was a 65 - 54 set back in an independent contest to Waynesburg. The Lions got off to a very slow start in the first half trailing 45- 24 at the break. Behrend came out strong in the second half outscoring Waynesburg by a score of 30 - 20, however it wasn't enough as the Li ons lost their third straight game. Junior Jason Paloskey led the scor ing attack with 14 points. Brock Bovaird also highly contributed with 13 points, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Brian Emick and John Park each had 8 points and 3 rebounds, while Steve Hout chipped in with 4 points and led the rebounding with 6 boards.
