Keep an eye out for these summer films
Truth or Consequences. N.M. is
the gritty, romantic story of petty
criminal Raymond Lebecke
(Vincent Gallo) and the woman he
loves more than anything in the
world, Addy Monroe (Kim
Dickens). After being released from
jail, Raymond is determined to find
enough money to take Addy away
with him forever. But getting hold
of cash has dire consequences for
the couple as they hook up with
Ray's former prisonmate and the
wild man Curtis Freley (Kiefer
Sutherland) and his associate, the
enigmatic Marcus Weans (Mykelti
Williamson). When their simple
plan for an easy theft goes awry and
an undercover cop is shot.
Raymond, Addy, Curtis and Marcus
go the lam, taking two yuppie
hostages (Kevin Pollack and Grace
Phillips) with them. Desperate to
make their dream come true, Ray
and Addy are willing to do just
about anything to make it happen.

any better. Those lyrics are from a
song dubbed "The Humpty Dance,"
and the words describe my approach
to writing.
I may not be making money, but
I do look funny, and I definitely try
to ruin preconceptions of how
writing is supposed to be.
Of course, in my attempts at
writing fresh, I've ended up writing
stagnant pools of opinionated
jargon. I removed myself from my
audience by using catch phrases and
dialect spawned from the genre of
music I listen to.
All I ever wanted was for people
to take notice of underground music
They are the best kept secret in
the universe. Working for a
highly-funded yet unofficial
government agency, K (Tommy
Lee Jones) and J (Will Smith) are

immigration services and regulators
of all things alien on earth. While

show my enthusiasm and
involvement.
And 50...1 did music reviews.
Starting the fall semester, I wrote
freelance album reviews on new
albums from bands I truly dig:
R.E.M., Tool, Weezer, Sebadoh,
and Jawbox. I joined the Collegian
staff this semester as a writer and
assistant editor and continued my
coverage of music, only I wrote
about concerts.
I went to more concerts this
semester than I ever dreamed I
would: Smashing Pumpkins,
Metallica, Earth Crisis, Chalkline
(local), Tompkins Square Riot
Gathering, and of course the
Behrend Battle of the Bands '97.
I wrote reviews of the concerts
because I)they were good, and
2)they were good. Also, I believe
that goodness had something to do
with it.
Concerts are the only medium
through which I can express my
point of view and not say anything.

Concerts, for me, are a divided
unity.
At any rate, I have had a great
time writing and editing (although I
know I can do a much better job at
both). I have gotten good reviews
(from my friends, who may feel
inclined to complement, but
nonetheless encouraged me to
continue what I enjoy). And to
avoid being wimpy and sappy (like
I usually am), I'll stop there.
I'd like to thank Sheila Bickel for
letting me do what I do and for
asking me to be her assistant. At
times I know I wasn't the best but I
like to think I helped out some. I
also want to thank Mike DeSantis
for his help and support.
Like a smart guy once said, "A
man of few words has less to take
back later." So, I bid thee farewell.
