Welcomed by mixed reactions and severe scrutiny, the logo has come under fire. New Nittany: Chipmunk or rough and tumble aggressor? According to employees at the Penn Slate Behrend Bookstore, the new logo is not very popular among customers. “I've heard a lot of people say they don’t like it. But a few like the aggressiveness of this one." said Holly Beary, an employee at the bookstore. “I think this one looks more like a chipmunk than the old one did.” “I’ve heard a lot of people say it’s not much different, they thought it would be rougher looking," said Helen Tatomirovich, manager of the bookstore. “Most people don’t seem too thrilled with it.” Kathy Ott, a bookstore employee, said, “I haven’t sold anything with the new logos, if that says anything.” See QUESTION page 2 Collegian Breaking the Surface Public triumphs and private agonies of Olympic great by Danielle M. Murphy Co-Editor in Chit/ Greg Louganis will make a splash Monday, Sept. 16, at Penn State-Behrend. His visit kicks off the 1996-97 Speaker Series. Louganis* lecture "Breaking the Surface" will include both his public triumphs and his private agonies, domestic violence and living with AIDS. The lecture will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Reed Union Building Commons. Louganis, the world’s most decorated diver, tested positive for the HIV virus in March 1988, five months before the Olympics in Seoul and his near-disastrous head injury. The results were not disclosed at that time and Louganis won two gold medals, in springboard and platform diving. In June 1994, Louganis competed in the Gay Games in New York City, publicly acknowledging his sexual orientation. Any further mystery surrounding Louganis* private life ended with the release of his autobiography, “Breaking the Students on Faster Internet by Kirsten Wright CoUtgiott Staff No one can call Penn State- Behiend spineless now... Following his injury in the preliminary event at Seoul, Louganis writes, “I sometimes can’t believe what I had to go through to get to that point. And it wasn’t just a bump on the head, not just the HIV diagnosis, but a lifetime of fear and pain and always feeling that the next dive would make it all right.” At the age of 16, Louganis won his First Olympic medal, a silver medal in platform diving at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal. Louganis continued to compete in the Olympics winning four gold medals. He is the only male diver to win two students can now directly network to Penn State’s computer network from their rooms.
