SGA Senator John Butler unveiled a petition against cots in state funded student aid at last night's meeting. SGA members will be circulating the petition across campus over the next two weeks, with a goal of getting signatures from at least half of the student body. Butler underscored the fact that the petition is entirely different from a widely circulated e-mail petition against federal student aid reductions. In support of the petition, SGA President Timothy Mallon encouraged senate members to bring in as many signatures as possible. "This is a good chance for Behrend to show we're involved," he Commuter Senator Mike Woycheck’s new public relations committee will meet sometime next week to go over policies and procedures. The committee was formed as part of SGA’s newefforts to “bring the organization to the students, not vice-versa” as President Mallon has said. A motion from last week's meeting to amend the SGA constitution so that commuter and resident senators are required to attend their respective council meetings (Joint Residence Council and Commuter Council) was debated. As a constitutional amendment, however, the motion carries a mandatory two week waiting period. SGA will vote on die amendment next week. Commuter Council President Steve Landon brought up the issue of a lade of SGA allocated funds to provide security for events held by student organizations. According to Landon, last year's budget committee failed to allocate funds for security due to an understanding that it would be provided without charge. But as SGA is just now discovering, there was apparently a miscommunication between Police and Safety Services and the committee. One organization was told security for their event would cost $6O. SGA will consider whether or not to pick up the tab for security at student events in future meetings. Anyone who wishes to help with the drive or has questions can contact any SGA representative, the SGA office, or John Butler at JSBls4@psu.edu.
