Mallon defeats Mottillo
SGA election
Timothy Mallon replaces Mike
Woycheck as SGA President

Timothy Mallon is SGA's new
President After lengthy debate
and wends from the candidates,
SGA elected Mallon over Joe
Modllo at last night's meeting.
Mallon's SGA vision includes.
"...calling on the members of the
Senate to fulfill the obligation
they took when they decided to
accept their respective positions."
Both candidates campaigned on
a platform including parking,
college drinking, campus
activities, and the Student
Activity fee.
"I'm not going to sit up here
and say I know everything about
SGA, because I don’t think
anybody does," Mallon said.
The new SGA President: Timothy Mallon wants to
address the parking and drinking issues on campus. Mallon
encourages SGA to be open for Behrend students.
Gearing up for Homecoming
BEHREND-Pleparations for this year's
homecoming are underway. Student clubs
and organizations, who wish to become
involve, are asked to submit entries to the
Student Activities office by Friday,
October 6.
Coordinator of the events, Alison
Emandez said, "We sent letters out to all
club and organizations to become involved
in the carnival, the Student Govenment
Club and Organization Alumni Breakfast,
Behrend Olympics, and also nominations
for Homecoming King and Queen."
"I would like to remind everybody that
the deadline is this Friday, October 6,"
Emandez continued.
Homecoming weekend begins on
Friday, October 13 with a Chariot Race at
7:30 p.m. A bonfire will follow behind

But Mallon does want to see
more involvement from Senate
members. He doesn't believe that
the President should carry the
burden of the entire organization
alone.
"We need to make SGA more
open,” Mallon said. "We need to
bring SGA to the students, not
the students to us.”
Motillo also championed
increased openness of SGA,
saying, "We need to put the
student back in SGA.”
On the topic of college
drinking problems, Mallon agreed
with Motillo that it was SGA's
responsibility to take some sort
of action.
"What exactly that is, I'm not
sure,” he said. ”1 think we'd be
kidding ourselves [in thinking

there will be roasting of hot dogs, s'mores
and a live performance by The Dirges.
The bonfire will also include the crowning
of die Homecoming King and Queen and
Greek Week winners.
On Saturday, October 14, a Student
Government Club and Organization
Alumni Breakfast is scheduled for 9 a.m.
The cost of the breakfast is $2.
At 10 a.m., there will be an Alumni
Soccer Match. During this time there will
also be Campus Walking Tours. At
10:30 a.m., there will be an Alumnae
Volleyball Game.
The Behrend Olympics, which pits club
versus club, runs from 11a.m. to 2p.m. in
the intramural fields.

Motillo has no bitter feelings

Mallon replaces Mike
Woycheck, who resigned the

presidency at last week's SGA
meeting due to irreconcilable
schedule problems. Woycheck,
who now sits on SGA as a
Commuter Senator, still looks
forward to working in student
government.
"I still feel like I can really do
a lot of the things that I said I
wanted to accomplish when I
campaigned last year," he said.
"I'm still able to make a
difference, at the Senator
position."
Dave Miller, SGA vice
president, served as acting
president during the interim last
week, and will return to the vice
president position.

At 2 p.m., there will be an Alumnae
Softball game.
The Provost’s Reception takes place at
3:30 pm in the Wintergarden, Reed Union
Building (first floor).
To celebrate the induction of athletes
who have been inducted into the hall of
fame, there will be a dinner at the Bel-Aire
Hotel, 2800 West Bth Street, Erie.
Tickets are $3O and are available through
the Athletic Office.
At 7 p.m., the Wintergreen Cafe hosts a
Murder Mystery Dinner. Reservations can
be made through the Office of Student
Activities (*6171). Spots are limited.
The political satire group, "Gross
National Product" entertains Reed
Commons at 9:30 p.m.
