This week's Housing and Food
Services' athlete of the week is
freshman softball player Heather
Nord.
Nader is a two-sport athlete at
Behrend. Along with being a
pitcher and left fielder for the
softball team, she is also on the
women's basketball team.
Norder attended nearby
Harborcreek High School where
she not only played softball for
four years, but basketball and
soccer as well.
She is currently enrolled in the
DUS program, but she plans to
major in Business Liberal Arts
and Science.
Norder said she is at Behrend
because of it's good athletic
programs. Not only that, bur
Norder said she chose Behrend
because of it's academics as well.
Norder gave a very humble
answer when asked why she
thought she was named ATW.
"I feel as if it's quite an honor.
I've been hitting alright. It's
probably my batting average,"
said Norder.
In the last two games for the
Lady Lions, she has been the
designated hitter.
Head coach Paul Benim said he
is very happy with Norder's
progress on the team.
"Heather has a winning
attitude. She comes from a great
program. She works hard and she
wants to learn. She has a great
work ethic," explained Benim.
Norder's teammate Julie
Stocker commented on Norder
being named ATW.

"Heather is a powerful hitter,
she struggles with pitching, but
she is really coming around,"
explained Stocker.
Fellow teammate Sue Mazur
agreed with Stocker.
"Heather is a very consistent
hitter. She has really adapted
well to the team as a freshman."
Looking to the second half of
the season, Norder said the team
is planning on winning as many
games as possible.
"We are just going to take the
games one day at a time," she
said.

Rain and snow, go away.
Come again some other day.
But, it didn't. It rained and it
snowed and the Lady Lions'
games were postponed and
doubleheaders against W&J,
Thiel, and Allegheny will have to
be reschecluled.
So well take a quick look at
the mid-season report of the Lady
Lions.
"We come into every season
with high expectations which
sometimes could be unfair
because we need to be realistic,"
said Head Coach Paul Benim.
"We're 13-11 but we should
probably be something like 18-6
and that's because at certain
points of the season we had
opportunities to pick up a 'W'
but we didn't execute and take
advantage of it."
On the subject of make-up
games, the Lady Lions were hurt
a bit because some teams they
were scheduled play could have
been possibly victories. Coach
Benim isn't so sure the games
will be made up due to timing.
"With Allegheny, every day
that is good for us is bad for
them and vice versa.
Unfortunately, these games
probably won't be made up."
"In the second half of the
season we look to square away
the corners, execute better, and do
the things we know that we can
do," commented Benim.
"We're either playing very good
• r even worse and that's been
10 % OFF
Softball still on hold
surprising with the group that we
have. We hope to come on
strong in the second half of the
year."
One of the strong pieces of the
Lady Lion puzzle this year was
the play of the strong incoming
class of freshman. Benim
commented on the play seen from
them so far.
"All five of them have done a
great job. They've done a great
job on and off of the field and
have been very supportive. Four
of them are hitting over .360 ana
driving in runs."
"Hitting has been tremendous
this year," replied Benim. "We're
hitting over .340 as a team this
year and doing a great job of
hitting line drives and ground
balls to the gaps in the field."
So now the Lady Lions look to
concentrate on the second half of
the season and we wish them
luck in continuing their winning
ways.
