In a shocking new situation,
the members of the Academy of
Motion Pictures Arts and
Sciences (AMPAS) voted to go
on strike shortly before the 67th
Annual Academy Awards, on
Monday, March 27, 1995.
The Academy struck back
immediately, by changing its
format to handle only television
commercials. All members of
the Academy that walked out,
were thrown out of the Academy.
Best Actor nominee Tom
Hanks led the walkout dispite the
fact that he was up for his second
straight award. Hank said "the
walkout was in support of the
Major League Baseball team
owners."

Ryder said "We in the Academy
feel that the players are being
totally unfair in trying to steal
the money that the owners have
rightfully earned in the ticket
sales."
The AMPAS, represented by
President Walter Matthau, who is
siding with the player's.
association, feels that this walk
out is totally uncalled for, and for
their actions, the actors and
actresses are being punished in
the only deserving way.
The award ceremony was still
held on Monday evening,
following a slight structure
change, with the following
