Clinton strikes out, last straw for Strawberry, and Pens stay faithful Now that the National Guard, the 82nd airborne unit, and Boy Scout Troop 411 have been brought in; now that the game has called off the bench a government that is divided; now that NBA has taken over the national pastime who (or what) is going to help end a baseball strike that could possibly wipe out this season with only eight days to go until the camps open? After owners and players missed their second deadline to settle, Clinton and the White House pushed for an end to the strike through legislation by throwing the ball Congress's way. After the first inning, it seems that the Republican - held Congress will more than likely give heavy resisience to the bill. Said Newt Gingrich, House Speaker, on possible congressional intervention, “I’m not sure Congress is the right .Teams wins with Schlott’s With the victory, Behrend raised its record to 10-11. Bethany fell to 12-9. Reed got Behrend out of the gate early, hitting her first four From The Bench national pastime ... I’d be very, very cautious.” Three strikes and you're out Bill. What ever happens, I feel that baseball has distanced itself so far from the national eye that any hope of continuing as a national pastime has all but diminished. In life, we hold our own destiny. Darryl Strawberry held his and let go. His short 29 - game career with the San Francisco Giants ended when he tested positive for cocaine on consecutive days last month. It was the same Giants that gave Strawberry a chance to come back and once again a sports hero has fallen. My advice to Strawberry, take up golf - at least they play. After the Pittsburgh Penguins fast start last week, the Pens have not let me down. They continued their winning streak with a 7-3 shalacking of the Florida Panthers on Tuesday. Last Saturday, Fornari and the Lady Lions won a hard fought road victory at Grove City, 59- 58. "ageless wonder" Joe Mullen celebrated his 1,000 career point in the game. The Tomas Sandstrom-John Cullen-Joe Mullen line finished the game with 10 points - the team is even doing this without Mario Lemiuex and Tom Barrasso. The bench is thinner yet without top right wingers Luc Robitaille and Kevin Stevens who are both out as well. Robitaille is suspended for a high-sticking incident Stevens is out with a hairline fracture of his left ankle. The Pens have showed in the past that they can play without Mhrio and are showing it once again. They’ll be there in the end as well. Behrend went to the free throw line 25 times, while Grove City had only four attempts. Senior point guard Megan Musante played the entire game against Grove City.
