The Penn State-Behrend Men’s
basketball team is in the middle
of a six game road trip. Foreign
courts have meant danger for the
Lions as the hoopsters are 0-2
outside of Behrend.
Tuesday night, Behrend
journeyed to Fredonia State
Although the Lions' defense
held the Blue Devil offense in
check by only allowing a mere
58 points, the offense struggled
managing only 47 points.
Point guard John Judy and
forward Steve Berger paced the
Lions with 12 points each, and
Berger snagged 11 rebounds as
well.
,'S
Forward Ron Derian, guard
Jamie Okonak, and forward Rob
Hunt each finished with six
points, while center Todd
Sturgin chalked 5 points and 12
boards.

Last Tuesday the Lions
stepped on the bus for the start
of a six game stretch of away
games.
The visiting Lions found the
Thiel Tomcats to be rude hosts
as Behrend lost 100-76.
Okonak led the Lions with 19
points, converting 13 of 15 free
throws and dishing out three
assists. Berger again put up the
numbers with 15 points, 7
rebounds and three steals.
Sturgin finished with 11 points
as the 6’7” center again cleared
the glass with 8 rebounds.
Derian finished with 10
points, 5 rebounds and two
assists.
The Lions weren’t calling
from long distance, as Behrend
shot one for 10 behind the arch,
while Thiel shot 10 for 30 from
three-point range.

“We have to learn from games
like (Thiel). We didn’t come out
at the tip; they did,” said Niland.
Despite the recent setback,
Behrend is .500 after winning
the Hamot Classic held in Erie
Hall November 19 and 20.

The Lions knocked off Lake
Erie College in the first round
with a score of 93-85, and won
the championship game with a
final score of 69-57 over
Waynesburg College.
The University of Southern
Maine lost to Waynesburg in the
first round and to Lake Erie in
the consolation game.
Erie Hall was jubilant as
Behrend brought home the
Hamot Classic championship for
the third time in four years.
“It was one of our goals, so
when you work hard to achieve
one of your goals, it is always
something you can be proud of,”
said Hunt.

The trophy passing did not
stop there. Judy and Sturgin
were named to the All-
Tournament Team, and Berger
was named the tournament’s
Most Valuable Player.
“All three of these guys played
well. (Ron) Derian just as
easily could have been on the
All-Tournament Team,” said
Head Coach Dave Niland.
Against Lake Erie in the first
round, Behrend had five players
with double figure scoring. Judy
led the way with 24 points,
while hitting on four of 10
three-point attempts.
Okonak finished the evening
with 18 points. Berger tossed in
16 points and grabbed 11
rebounds, while Hunt netted 11
markers.
Sturgin led all players in the
rebound category with IS and
ended with 9 points.
Against Waynesburg, Berger
had the high scoring touch as the
senior forward shot over sixty
percent from the floor to net 19
points and 8 rebounds.
Judy added 17 points and no
turnovers as the Lion floor
general. Derian notched 16
points and 6 boards, while
Sturgin again led all rebounding
efforts with 11 and 7 points.
Next on the agenda for the
Lions is the Trinity Tournament
this weekend.
