The Behrend men’s soccer team
has dropped its record to 6-9-2
with losses to Mountain Union
and Slippery Rock.
The men lost to Slippery
Rock, yesterday, 9-0. The score
of Saturday’s game at Mountain
Union was 4-1. Sean Blank
contributed the only Behrend
score.
Sophomore Jeff Keene said of
Wednesday’s blow-out, “We
weren't prepared to play the
game. We basically let them do
what they wanted.”
Of the Mountain Union game,
Keene said, “We played a good
game until the last twenty
minutes. That’s when all the
goals were made. We basically
gave up.”
The men’s soccer team hope'i
for a win Monday at horn*

The Penn State-Behrend
women’s club soccer team
rounded out its season last
Thursday with a 5-1 win over
the visiting Allegheny Gators.
The Lady Lions finished their
rookie season at 6-0, and are
looking for bigger things in the
future.
“The Allegheny game was a
very nice way to end a successful
season,” said Head Coach Rick
Nese. “I have confidence in this
program for the future.”
Nese has reason to be
confident in the play of the Lady
Lions this season. The powerful
offense scored a total of 27
goals, while the stingy defense
allowed only two.
Both of the goals scored
against Behrend were tallied by
Allegheny. The Lady Gators
scored once on the Lady Lions
late in the first game of the
season, and once in the game
last Thursday.

lone goal last Thursday with five

The Penn State-Behrend
women's volleyball team had its
five game winning streak
snapped losing dual matches
against Grove City and
Westminister.
The Lady Lions lost to Grove
City by scores of 15-9 and 15-
11, then later in the day
succumbing to Westminister by
sctxes of 16-14 and 15-11.
Carrie Grzejka and Mitzi
Carter each pounded out 11 kills
in dual match play. Molly
Samuels led Behrend in digs
with 20, while Angela Georg
dished out 31 assists.
Head Coach Jan Wilson was
disappointed with her team's
play over the dual match with
Grove City and Westminister.
"We just came out awfully
flat Our back row played really
well. We had 90 digs over both
matches, but our hitters just
didn't put the ball in play."

Rookie season shows promise
of their own. The scoring once
again was wide spread, and a
variety of Lady Lions gathered
assists.
Lara Herrmann started the
attack, as she beautifully directed
a Lady Lion comer kick off of
her head into the back of the net.
"I have
confidence in
the program
for the future."
- Coach Nese
Michelle Pinch picked up the
assist, as she booted the ball
from the comer.
Comer locks proved to be an
offensive weapon for the lady
kickers, as Finch netted another
assist on Missy Obmann's goal
near the end of die first half.
Earlier in the week the Lady
Lions defeated both Bethany
College and Pitt-Bradfoid in
separate matches.
Against Bethany, Grzejka led
Behrend with 13 kills. Amy
Stranahan added seven digs and
Georg had 19 assists and three
service aces.
Samuels, an outside-hitter,
was happy with the team's play
against Bethany.
"We play really well when
we're having fun. When we're
relaxed we can play well in all
areas."
Against Pitt-Bradford, Grzejka
once again led the Lady Lions in
kills while 12 with Georg
racked up 18 assists and eight
digs.
Coach Wilson still has
confidence in her team's
abilities. "We match up player
for player with every team we
play. We just have to play to
our potential. An ECAC
playoff bid is still a possibility,
but we have to play consistently

Halfback Michelle Carino
scored her third goal of the
season, while halfback Bridgette
Jesek had the assist.
Forward Fabienne Duchini
sported the talented toe as she
chalked up Behrend’s fourth goal
of the game. Obmann had the
assist.
Nese describes Mary
Wilhelm’s contribution on the
fifth and final goal as “a great
individual effort with hustle.”
Wilhelm provided the assist to
goal scorer Becky Eckendorf,
who is usually the Behrend
goalkeeper. The netminder,
while playing a forward
position, scored her first goal of
the season.
“We accomplished what we set
out to accomplish this season.
In the process, we gained the
respect of some varsity coaches,”
Nese said.
During the off-season, Nese
plans on strengthening the
schedule for next year, whether it
be at the club or varsity level.
in our last match against
Washington and Jefferson as
well as die Messiah Tournament
in Harrisburg. Many of the
teams in that tournament are
ranked nationally."
With the season nearing an
end, senior co-captains
Stranahan and Grzejka have
different feelings on playing
their last home match of their
college careers.
Stranahan said, "It’s just
another game for me, but this is
the best season the team has had
since I’ve been here."
Grzejka has a different view
on the culmination of her career.
"It’s kind of depressing that my
career is almost over. I reached
one of my goals to set the
school record for kills, but an
ECAC playoff bid would be
nice to get as well."
Stranahan, Grzejka and the
rest of the Lady Lions play their
final match at home tonight at
Erie Hall at 7 p.m. against
Washington and Jefferson.
