Editorial...
There is a serious epidemic here at Behrend.
Don't be worried, you will not catch it from that
sneezing guy next to you in class. The epidemic
we are talking about is the lack of respect for
other people's efforts.
Everyday, we see flyers that were once hung in
the hall, strewn all over the floor. I am not sure
whether students are offended because the Scuba
Club is having a bake sale and they feel that it is
their moral responsibility to tear down the flyer
announcing it, or they just get some sick
pleasure from tearing paper.
The flyers take effort to create and effort to hang
up. There is no reason that others should take it
upon themselves to negate these efforts.
We are all members of the Behrend community.
Let's start respecting it!
Double Standard
I would like to respond to two
articles written by John
Rossomando that were published
in The Collegian.
The fast article was published
in the second Collegian of the
semester and tells us how the
homosexual lifestyle is
"immoral."
The second article was
published in the October 14
Collegian, "Christianity vs.
Bigotry," and complains how
Christians are discriminated
against by today's society.
There seems to be a
convenient double standard in the
reasoning of Mr. Rossomando.
He seems to say that gay
bashing is ok, but Christian
bashing is not.
Mr. Rossomando seemed to be
very intense on the issue of how
wrong homosexuality is, even to
the point of condemning it.
I can recall in his most recent
article Mr. Rossomando stating
in his own words how, 'lt is

important to respect another's
views...even if you disagree with
what he is saying. It is
completely wrong to condemn
what you do not understand."
My question to Mr.
Rossomando is this: how can
one hold two diametrically
opposing views, and still be so
insistent on both?
It is just a guess, but I do not
imagine that_you have a strong
understanding of homosexuality.
If this is true, then how do you
explain your condemnation of it,
especially in light of your own
words? (see above quote)
Part of growing up means
learning to get along with other
people. And since not all people
are alike, this means having to
learn to accept differences,
whether you agree with them or
not.
It does not mean that you
must incorporate these
differences into your own
lifestyle, but you must
overcome the irrational fear of
those who are different from
Some advice for you Mr.
Rossomando. I do not remember
who originally said it, but it
seems to fit. Isn't it better to be
silent and to be thought of as a
fool than to speak and cancel any
doubts.
Great Injustice
The October 14 Collegian
included John Rossomando's
column "Christianity vs.
Bigotry." Although an
apparently, strongly convicted
individual, Rossomando does
little more than offer a poorly
substantiated, whiny argument.
He claims that Christians,
including himself, are
"condemned as being bigoted or
ignorant." Rossomando does a

The common Christian is not
typically considered ignorant.
Those considered ignorant are the
extremists blinded by their self

fervor. Roswmando is such a
person.
His ignorance is made visible

If it was, however, Democracy

Rossomando's argument that

not worthy of the attention such
