Key players in this game were: Carrie Grzejka with 18 kills, 50 kill percent; Molly Samuels with 13 kills, 35 kill percent; and Amy Stranahan with 33 kill percent. Grezejka also had 3 solo blocks, followed by Jonelle Curtis and Samuels each with 2. Coach Jan Wilson commented, "The team is playing tough right now. They have the right chemistry to finish out the year well. They are finally supporting each other." In the last game the Lions won 11-15. Coach Wilson said, "The team was more poised for this game. They went 9-7, led by Annemarie Faso's 19-3 record The team leader in wins was sophomore sensation, Anne marie Faso. Faso improved on her single season singles record by going 19-3. October 12 brought the Lions to Pitt/Bradford. The scores were 15-8, 15-7, 15-7. Key players were Stranahan with 50 kill percent, Jen Leone also with 50 kill percent and Grzejka with 34 kill percent. Coach Wilson's comment on this game was, "I felt there was a nice team effort in this game." October 9 Behrend hosted the Penn State Behrend Tournament. They played Notre Dame, Lake Erie and Thiel. In the Lake Erie game the Lions won 15-4, 15-4. Then they took on Thiel winning 15- 11, 15-7. Their next opponent was Notre Dame where the Lions won again 15-10, 16-14. They then moved to the finals against Notre Dame, where they lost 15-6, 11-15, 13-15 for a second place in the tournament. Grzejka and Stranahan received All Tourney Team honors. Coach Wilson felt the team played really well as a whole. Melissa Bager and Rhonda Dennison went 11-4 in doubles play. "We held our own and we pulled off wins when we needed them," said Olarczuk. Coach Wilson stated, "The kids played real good ball, hitting well in the first three games, but in the fourth and fifth they had a lot of hitting errors." Coach Wilson's final comments were, "In the second half of the season the team is trying to reset its goals. They have really worked hard at achieving that. The level of play is so different now from the start of the season." The team has improved its serving aces from an average 1.5 per game to 2.3. They used to average 13 ball handling errors and now average 8.6. According to Wilson, "They are not giving the ball to the opponents as often." The Lions' next game is today at 6:30 p.m. in Erie Hall. fall, the netters are set with all but Faso coming back. "The question is, can they threepeat?" asked an eager Gallegos.
