Editorial...
Today many of you will be reading about
something you have never heard of before. You
will read that in the near future Behrend students
could be paying an activities fee that will be
included in their tuition.
This weekend five members of our Student
Government will be going to the CCSG
(Commonwealth Campus Student Government)
meeting at University Park. Two of these members
will be voting on whether to recommend the
activities fee to the University administration.
These students who are representing the entire
student body of Behrend, were elected last spring
during an election which drew only 11% of the
student body.
How well does this speak of our campus, when only
one of every ten students even voted in the
election?
The Student Government at our campus is an
important and active organization. They won the
Best Student Organization Award last year, yet only
11% of the student body bothered to vote in last
year's election, and there are never more than
five students at an SGA meeting.
Hopefully, our two representatives will represent
us well at CCSG. If they don't, whose fault will it be?
Letter to the editors
Dear Editor,
I would like to take this opportunity to thank several people,
student organizations, and offices for their help in making Parents
and Families/Homecoming Weekend a success. We made
substantial changes to the Weekend this year, and we have found a
model that will become a tradition at Penn State-Behrend.
I would like to publicly thank several people whose individual
efforts contributed greatly to the overall success of the weekend.
They include Bonnie Fagan, Pat Smith, Teryl Anderson, Marcos
Lopez, Jamie Rossi, Dayna Casiglio, Herb Lauffer, Tom Slye,
Mary Magestro, Brent Vernon, Lori Korman, Mike Libidinsky, ,
Dianna Malinowski, Marge Wizikowski, Linda Kaleta, and the
many student volunteers that helped out during the weekend.
There are also several student organizations and offices that I
would like to thank for their extra help and support during the
weekend. These organizations and offices include the Maintenance
Department, Housing and Food Services, the custodial staff, Police
and Safety, the Penn State-Behrend Alumni Society, the soccer
team, the volleyball team, the softball team, the Greek system, and
the clubs and organizations that participated in the many pre
weekend activities.
The success of Parent's and Families/Homecoming Weekend
could not have been realized without the hard work and dedication
from the people and organizations mentioned above. We owe them
all our thanks for improving the quality of life on campus for all of
us.
Sincerely,
David P. Shields, Jr.
Director of Student Activities
