Earth Day '93 Campus Ministry Press release To celebrate Earth Day 1993 on Thursday, April 22, 1993, a ceremony in the Wintergarden at 11:00 a.m. will take place. Entitled "Encircled by Creation", it focuses on Native American culture and spirituality. It will be followed by tree planting and plaque dedication to honor not only those who give back to our Earth, but to those who give life through the gift of organ and tissue donation. Dr. Antonella Cupillari, associate professor of mathematics, is the conference organizer. The meeting's keynote address will be given at 9:30 a.m. Saturday by Dr—Detbilikt Tepper Haimo, president of the MAA. Her talk, "Similarities Between Fourier and Power Series," will be held in 117 Reed. It is co-sponsored by Campus Ministry Council and TRIO (Transplant Recipient International Organization through a grant received from the Elfun Society, a volunteer organization of General Electric Leaders. Clean-up groups are also being organized as a part of the grant. The purpose of this research, according to Theresa Kopajtic, was to create substances similar to cocaine, called analogues, used to study cocaine effects on the brain. This new substance is similar to methadone, which is currently being used to replace heroin in drug addiction rehabilitation.
