News Revival of the ASO by April M. Bogdanski Collegian Staff This year at Behrend, the Asian Student Organization has been revived. The Asian Student Organiza tion was implemented to increase student body awareness of Asian cultures. It is not only open for Asian cultures, but all other cultures as well. There are presently about 25 to 30 Asian students interested. ASO makes it easier for Asian students to get together and socialize, and to speak what's on their mind. Some objectives of the ASO include furthering members' academic skills, taking part in activities such as skiing, expressing their culture, enlightening other students about the Asian background, and adapting to life here at Behrend. Members of the ASO help each other with things such as their major, or getting through any red tape at school. ASO is deeply involved with activities. They are involved in numerous activities with the Association of Black Collegians (ABC). Speakers come to talk about various majors to help students learn more about their major. There will also be multi-cultural festivals in March. "The main objective of the Asian Student Organization is to make the campus notice that we are a different culture," said Danny Chun, President of ASO. "A lot of people aren't aware of the various cultures that exist," said Gerald Spates, one of the advisors of ASO "The Asian Student Organization wants to promote awareness and pride in Asian culture." from ARTS on page 1 Prizes for the coin toss are being donated by crafters, and the bake sale is sponsored by local churches and Behrend faculty and staff.
