Dr. Edwin Masteller selected by The Journal of the Kansas Entmological Society
Anal 13alcita/Photgraphfir
"Don't know much about history, don't know much biology...": The words may have been sung by Sam Cooke, but
biology students Jill Bejarano, left, and Suzanne Confer, right, wouldn't have used them to describe Dr. Edwin C. Masteller.
Asst. V.P. speaks at Behrend concerning Student Affairs
by Alicia Hartman
Dr. Thomas Eakin, Assistant
Vice President, Student Affairs,
visited Behrend campus
yesterday, March 3.
Eakin's responsibilities
stretch across the University.
He provides leadership,
consultation and support for
Student Affairs programs
throughout the Penn State
system. Eakin works with
campus staffs and professors
"behind the scenes." More
importantly, he feels, he is
helping campuses balance their
money and decrease their
expenditure&
Behrend is not a CES
(Commonwealth Educational
System) campus because of its
four-year majors. CES
campuses have only two-year
programs. Eakin stopped here
in Erie to compare Behrend to
CES campuses.
Eakin's goal is to spend one
day at all University campuses
throughout the academic year.
Concerning his goals for CES
campuses, Eakin stated, "The
rust year is dedicated to getting
a better understanding of the
problems. We are trying to take
our time to get a better
understanding of all points of
view."
While at Behrend, Eakin
talked with Dr. Chris Reber,
Dean of Student Affairs, and
met with the Counseling,
Student Activities, Residence
Life and Human Relations
staffs. Eakin also met with
Provost and Dean Dr. John M.
Lilley, and student leaders.
Also on his agenda were tours
of the Career Development
Center and the Carriage House,
which is a proposed site for the
new Health and Wellness
Center.
Eakin obtained his bachelor's
degree from lUP, and his
master's and doctorate degrees
from University Park.
Eakin came to Penn State
seeking employment for only
three years. Three years has
now turned into 22.
"It's a new part of my 1ife...1
feel I've made a positive
contribution," claimed Eakin.
In his spare time, Eakin plays
golf, squash and reads.
