Intramural update
by Hal Coffey
Collegian Staff
Now that the first semester of
the "All Year Trophy Point
System" has concluded, IM
director Rob Wittman can look
back and see the enormous
success of the intramural sports
program.
If words are not enough, how
about statistics: individual
participation increased 89.7%
from 1991 and 181.1% from
1990, also 66.2% of full-time on
campus males participated in at
least one activity.
The most involved group
seems to be first semester full
time on-campus males, who are
participating at a rate 69.6%.
As these statistics and
encouraging numbers show how
well the first half of the year
went, the second half should be
as good or even better.
The spring semester begins
with the 5 on 5 basketball
league.
The round robin division play
occurs from now until February

At that time, the playoffs will
begin for the best of the 38 teams
(34 men's and 4 women's). The
men's division has been split into
two tournaments, one
competitive and one re-creational.
Look for results in upcoming
Collegian issues.
Staying with basketball, the 3
on 3 men's champs from Behrend
will be competing in the Buckeye
Regional Tournament at Ohio
State University on February 20.
They will be trying to defend
the title that a team from Behrend
won last year.
Other upcoming events include
ping pong and street hockey with
sign ups due February 22 and 29
respectively.
Wittman is hopeful that the
high rate of participation in the
fall will continue in the spring.
With a variety of sports
ranging from ping pong to
swimming to modified softball,
it looks like his goals for the
intramural program can and will
be met.
