Towanda, for the next thirty days, for the sale of

General Grant received an enthusiastic
, reception in Cincinnati.
Francis E. Hayden has been acquitted
of the alleged poisoning of his sister.
Great anxiety prevails in Russia in ex
pectation of new repressive measures by
the Goverment.
The Chamber of Deputies at Paris has
appropriated $1,000,000 to relieve thesuti
i ering poor of France.
Governor Hoyt has again refused to
deliver Mr. Kedhelier, whom Mrs. Walling
ibrd claims married her, to the New York
authorities.
The Surgeon General of the United
State Marine Hospital has issued a circu
lar for the guidance of persons desiring
to enter the medical corps of that service.
The Republican papers of Kansas prove,
on a count, to be about equally divided
between Grant and Blaine as presidential
candidates.
Ex-Secretary of War McCrary expects
to leave Washington early next week to
assume the duties of I uited States Judge
of the Eighth Judicial Circuit.
The officers of the new French Cable
Company deny that there is any defect in
i the cable, and declare that the line w ill
be obened for trullic shortly.
Three thousand four hundred and lifty

The Postmaster General yesterday is
sued an order to the postmasters in New
York forbidding the payment of any pos- |
tal money order drawn to the order of j

New York, and to return all registered !
letters addressed to this tirin to the post
masters at the oliices where they were 1
originally mailed. The order is based
upon investigations of a special agent of
the Post Oltiee Department, who reports
that Simpson & Co. arc engaged in con
ducting a scheme or device for obtaining
money through the mails by means of
false and fraudulent pretenses.
