NEW YORK (AP) A May tuneup bout in Korea as a
prelude to a summer title defense against George Foreman is'
the latest blueprint being prepared for heavyweight boxing
champion Muhammad Ali.
‘.‘lt’s alive very much alive,” promoter Don King told The
Associated Press yesterday by phone from Annapolis, Md.,
vajiere he is staging the televised U.S Boxing Championships.
’”‘l am convinced Ali wants to fight again ahd feels obligated
to give Foreman a return shot at the crown. Herbert
Muhammad has given me 90 days to work up a promotion
agreeable to the champ. ’ ’
Herbert Muhammad is the longtime manager of Ali, who
since wresting the heavyweight crown from Foreman and
winning a rubber, duel from Joe Frazier has been playing on-
.again, off-again game of retirement. ,

proposing one of several, young challengers.
Among the prospective opponents are John Boudreaux of
Houston, Tex., boasting a 21-1-1 record; Larry Holmes of
Scranton, Pa., 23-0, and the South African champion, Mike
Shutte.
King, ringmaster of the King enterprises which pulled off
Ali’s multi-million-dollar conquests in Zaire and Manila, said
he had been approached by representatives of Korean
business interests and an American promoter, Paul Covino.
The plan would be for Ali to defend his crown in early May.
The Korean group would put up $5 million with $lO million
expected from world-wide television rights. The idea has not
reached the stage of guarantees.
“This would be strictly a warmup fight, looking to a return
match against Foreman,’’.King said.
“When I talked Foreman into defending his heavyweight
title against Ali in Zaire, I promised him that —in case he lost
he would get a return bout. It seemed only fair.
“I feel that Ali thinks it is fair also and wants to prove to
everyone that his Zaire victory was no fluke.”
Ali, now 35, regained his heavy weight championship by
stopping foreman in the eighth round in Kinshasa, Zaire, Oct.
30,1974, and a year later knocked out Frazier in the 14th round
of their third fight in so-called “Thrilla of Manila.”

their clients.
Last week, both sides expressed
optimism that an agreement could be
reached quickly even if one could not
be achieved at the meeting in
Washington, the fourth to be held
since Super Bowl week a month ago.
However, the union’s optimism ap
parently was dimmed after two days
of discussions Tuesday and Wed
nesday.
, “After two days of negotiations
there is absolutely no progress,”
Garvey said Wednesday. “It is now
clear that the Feb. 15 deadline was
unrealistic and there is little op :

But Just get by Shippensburg
Swimwomen keyed for Pitt meet
The Lady Lion swimmers have been
looking ahead to Sunday’s showdown in
Pittsburgh all week. Shippensburg
almost took advantage of that fact, but
Pqnn State was able to get things back
into perspective in the second half
yesterday to win 76-55.
“It was more of a warmup than we
hoped,” Penn State coach Ellen Perry
said. “One mental error and we would
have lost the meet.”
In the opening half of the meet, Ship
pensburg took first in seven events and
led the Lady Lions 37-33. Penn State had
risked some experimenting in their
lineup and were forced to swim their
strongest women to salvage the meet in
the second half.
Prior to the meeting, Garvey said
most of the issues, such as a pension
plan, were “out of the way” but that
there were at least seven major
issues, such as the draft, on which the
two sides were far apart.
After Wednesday’s meeting, one
union source indicated that
negotiations had taken a step back
ward. “Some things which we thought
had been already agreed upon
weren’t.”
. Representing the owners during the
negotiations were Wellington Mara of
the New York Giants and Dan Rooney
of the Pittsburgh Steelers along with
Sargent Karch, executive director of
the NFL Management Council.

When there’s a challenge,
quality makes the difference.
We hope you have some fun with the challenge.
There’s another challenge we’d like to offer you, too.
The Pabst challenge:
We welcome the chance to prove the quality of
our beer. We challenge you to taste and compare
Pabst Blue Ribbon to any other premium beer. You’ll
like Pabst better. Blue Ribbon quality means the best
tasting beer you can get. Since 1844 it always has.

“They were primed, ready for us,”
Perry said. “We needed a team effort to
win.”
The Lady Lions won five of the six
final events, losing only the 100-yard
backstroke.
Three Penn State competitors were
double winners. Diver Becky Binny won
on both the one-and three-meter boards.
Freshman Carol Mazzer took the 200-
yard freestyle and the 100-yard but
terfly, Lynn Ross-Scovazzo outdistanced
the field in 50-yard and the 100-yard
breaststroke.
With yesterday’s victory safely under
their caps, all attention is focused on
Pittsburgh’s Trees Pool. The Pan
therette’s only loss thus far was to
The Daily Collegian Friday, February 11, 1977
Princeton by a mere two points. Penn
State slid past the Tigers last weekend
66-63. Early in the fall Penn State
finished second to Pitt in the Pittsburgh
Relays.
The Lady Lions are going full strength
for the contest, which will include the
return of sophomore Mindy Millard in
the individual medley. She had been out
for the past few weeks due to a back
injury.
The Pantherettes slapped the Lady
Lions with their only loss last season.
Once again, they have another perfect
record to protect, and revenge is
sometimes a very effective weapon.
