John and James M'Cleary, convicted of
counterfeiting, were , then brought In for sen
tence. A few witnesses were called to prove
that the younger M'Cleary had been employed
for a time in manufacturing patterns for the
T.'xiqle Cotton Factory. Theydid not, however,
rave Ihstho bid aVy r4ular'ereployinent.
John M'Cleary was sentenced to pay a tine of
$2,500 and costs, and undergosin Imprisonment
of five years in the Western Penitentiary, and
James to pay a similar tine, andirnprisonment
fiir three years—both at hard labor.
Judgments were entered up in the case. of
Western Bank of Baltimore vs. James Miles,
and mule vs. John Galbraith.

The Port Perry homicide was not taken-up
this morning, the grand jury not having yet
returned a bill to take the place of.the defective
indictment set aside on Tuesday. •
Joseph Klingman ' of the Fourth ward, Alle
gheny, was tried and found - guilty-of having
sold liquor to -William ilathky; a man of in
teimperate habits,' after being notified by his
wife not to soil him. Ho was fined $lO arid
the costs of prosecution, and sentenced to ten
days Imprisonment in tho county jail.
John O'Brien, who keeps a jewelry store on
Liberty street, was tried for obtaining $l6.
from A.nton Hann under false pretences. The
prosecution states that ho went into the shop of
defendant, and purchased, with other articles,
two rings at $9, which O'Brien represented to
be solid. gold. They were afterwards ascer
tained to befitted with hard solder, a thin coat
ing of gold on the outside, and, worth $1 or VI
each. The jury found a verdict of not guilty,
but defendant to pay the costs.
1 Frederick Lieban, of Eait Wrmingham, was
indicted for !selling liquor on Sunday, by Hrs.'
Mary E. Farquar, to her husband, who after
wards beat her severely. The jury brought in
a verdict Of'guilty, and Lieban was sentenced
to pay is fine of $lO and the costs, and to an im-

Patriek Keefe, of the Sixtb Ward, was in
.'dieted for maintaining a nuisance, in renting to
Elizabeth Powers, a woman of bad repute, a
house on Wylie street-. James Boyd, the pros
ecutor,and other witnesses, testified that in this
house and others in the vicinity known as
Keefe's Court" dissolute and disorderly per
sons, black and white, assembled, creating fre
quent disturbance% to the serious annoyance of
the witnesses. On trial.
DISTRICT COURT.—Iii this Court a verdict
was rendered yesterdayfor the plaintiff for the
amount of $369,08, with questions of law re
served for the Court, in the ease of Allegheny
City vs. Capt. E. W. 11. Schenley and Mary
E. Scheuley, his wife. This case is one of
about thirty in which suit has been brought
against Mr. Schenley by the city, he having
refused to pay the amount assessed upon his
property under the recent paving law. The
verdict is for the full amount claitnedleaving
the Court to decide on some legal points. D.

ed for the prosecution, and Thos.:Williams for

inburg, from Now York for 'Glasgow, put in
here; yesterday, with two compartments full of
water, having struck an iceberg, on Monday,
in a dense fog. It was only by the most vig
orous exertions of the crew and all the paaen
gen, and the constant working of the pumps,
that she was kept from sinking,, and enabled to
reach this port. At aria Erne her position - Waa
so perilous that all the boats were lowered and
provisioned, and the passengers'alloted by lists
to the several boats; they expecting every mo
ment to be obliged to leave the steamer. All
the passengers and crew are safe.
