velvet are now sold for petticott trimmings.

dresses and paletots. A very original style of
toilet, amen admired, •is a low peplum made
of cerise silk, bordered with black feather
trimming, and worn over a high white silk
gauze dress. Sloth white and colored feather
trimmings aro very popular round silk pep
lums. A band of hawk's feathers rounvl
poplin palotut with facings La considered very
elegnt; in fact, these feather tmings are
looked upon as drrai-salon furs. They are,
.however, by no menus used Indiscriminately;
bands of peacock's feat here are only to he been
round pitketots made of the richest and most
delicate silks and poplins, while the black
feathers are seen only on cashmere paletots.
The cashmere is cut out In scalltips, and the:
feather band follows the - outline of the scal
lops; the small- collar is likewise horde,red
with feathers, as are the tops and calls of the
sleeves. ,

dress, able!, was made recently by one of our
fashions! dressmakers. The skirt Was gonad

ribbon velvet sewn on plain, and a second row
of black velvet sandy trod at the edge, de
scribed the contour of a basslue. The van
dskod velvet (which iras cut from the piece

Of all the varied shapes of bonnets nos out,

forest churches of Brooklyn, was held In the
Church of tile Messiah Adelphla street, for
the purpose of considering the best means of
bringing the Word of God to the knowledge
of the masses of th people. The Rev. Dr.
Hodge, of the Baptist church, presided. Sove•
ral addresses were delivered. It was men
tioned by one of the speakers that out of the
three hundred thousand. Inhabitants who
composed the population of Brooklyn, not
more titan one hundred thousand were
brought within the liuluenee of the gospel.
