called up, but the defendant did not come in.
to Court for the reason, as was set forth in an
affidavit, Umt he had sprained his ankle and
was unable to travel. The Geurt did not ap
pear to think the exeuse‘a valid one, and a
process was issued - for litewartfa arrest, and
placed in the hands of detective - Jones,-who .
had made the first arrest, for execution. The
officer left the ,eity on the Johnstown'
Accommodation train, and ,on his ar
riving at Daffier station, on the Indiana branch
was unable to secure any conveyance to take
him to Stewart's residence. Determined not,
to be thwarted to his object theofflcer Maned
°afoot, and after a walk of fifteen miles, found
himself at his destination. lie was rewarded
for his fatigue by finding the object-of his
search at the house, Stewart was somewhat
surprised at the unexpected visit, but conclu
ded that as the request Ids presence in this
city was imperative it was better for -hies to
come. Tho ofilcer reached home on Thursday
wlth,Stewart, in charge, and the prisoner was
immediately placed on trial. The evidence
adduced by the prosecution, was to the eireet
that a considerable amount of counterfeit
fractional currency was - found on the person of
the defendant atter his arrest, and that senile
on is train on the Pennsylvania railroad. from .
Altoona to Greensbnrir,llo - had offered. some

to a. life insurance agent. Thu testimony for
the defense was principally confined to the
previous good character of the accused, a num
ber of persons - being examined on this point.
The next ewe taken up was that of the
United States vs. George U. Wilton, of Titus
ville, Pa., impleaded with James Irwin and
Edward Shattuck. A verdict for the plaintiff
was rendered uy the jury for the s• in of
