PERSONA!.
Efforts are making to rear a handsome monu
ment above the remains of Edgar Allan Poe, but as
yet his admirers are unable to identify his grave.
Mrs. Olemm, the mother of his first wife, Is living
in great want In Baltimore, and N. P. Willis will
take charge of donations for her comfort.
Mr. Chase has written a letter, In which he
says ho rejoices to know that New York is as sure
for Lincoln and Johnson as Ohio, than which there
can be nothing surer.
After Mr. Chase’s speech In this city last
night he proceeds to Michigan, Illinois and Missou
ri. He will make his closing speech of the cam
paign at St. Louis. Mr. Chase’s time is now fully
engaged up to the election, and this will account
for his failure to respond to the many Invitations
that reach him from various points.
; —Mr, Wade will soon make a tour through
Pennsylvania, delivering his first speech probably
at Pittsburg. ‘
A remarkable story comes from Yiteolo, Italy,
about the late Cardinal Bedini. It appears that
his hotly lay In state in a church there, enclosed
in a triple coffin, when suddenly an explosion was
hoard as if from his coffin, and the, corpse was
forcibly ejected ; the bier and the lighted candles
around it were overturned. The people in the
church fled in dismay. The police attributed the
affair to the explosion, of a bomb which had been
placed under the coffin, and immediately arrested
several suspeoted citizens.

.Pleasing the Ladies.—lt has been many a

Sewing Machines have all been overcome In the
Florence, and everybody is delighted with the
beauty of its work,: as well as the simplicity and
ease of its operations. It makes no less than four
separate and distinct stitches, viz.: Lock, knot,
double lock, and double knot. Each stitch alike on
both sides of the fabric. It also has a reversabie
feed motion, enabling the operator to fasten off the
ends of seams, or stay any part of a seam, without
stopping ihe machine, thereby saving much hand
labor. Besides, it has a uniform tension of thread,
and does not require alteration in changing from ono
kind of work to another. The agent for the Com
pany, at 680 Chestnut street, challenges comparison
with all others. Indeed, when such comparison is
made, the preference always goes in favor of the
Florence. Every machine warranted to give entire
satisfaction, or money returned. No charge for In
struction, whether you wish to purchase or not.

A cross cut south from the bottom of No. 1 shaft, on
the south or Trcsider lode, failed to develop any new

turerß of this, ■
J. W. BRADLEY’S
PATENTED DUPLEX ELLIPTIC STEEL SPRING
SKIRTS.
This Invention consists of ■ Duplex (or two) Elliptic
Bteel Springs, ingeniously braided tightly and firmly
together, edge to edge, making the toughest, moat elas
tic, flexible, and durable spring ever used, enabling the
wearer, in consequence of its great elasticity and flexi
bility, to . place and fold the skirt when in use as easily
and with the same convontence as a silk or.muslin
dress, „-it entirely obviates and silences the only objec
tion to hoojj skirts, ;viz: the annoyance to the wearer
as well.as-the public, especially in crowded assemblies;
earrmgesyrailroad cars, church news, or in any crowded
Slace, from the difficulty of contracting them tooecupy
ig a small space. This entirelyirainoves the difficulty,
while giving the skirt, the usual full and symmetrical
form, and is the lightest and most stylish and graceful
appearance for the street, opera, promenade, or house
dreßS. A lady having enjoyed the pleasure, comfort,
and great convenience of wearing the Duplex Elliptic
Spring Skirt for a single day,- will never afterward
willingly dispense with the use of them.: They are the
best quality inevery part, and by far the lightest, most
durable, comfortable, and economical skirt made. Mer
chants will be supplied as above, and ladies in raoit
first-class retail stores in this city and throughout the
different States.
