tent Medicines), but received no relief. My throat con
tinued growing worse, and my general health continued
to fail.- In April, 1563, I . addressed,' a letter to a physi
cian in,’Mew. .York, that I had been taking! medicine
from, enclosing five' dollars'.for medicine., ..Soon: after
dropping the letter in the office,-1 heard of Dr. Brown,
'Electrical Physician. I concluded to call; and, after
hearing, his explanation of my disease and’ mode of

The Secretary of tbe Treasury gives notice' that sub
scriptions will bereceivod for Coupon Treasury Notes,
payable three years from August 15th, 1864, with: semi
annual interest at the rate of seven and
per cent, per annum —principal and interest both to be
paid in lawful money.
Thesenotes will be convertible at the option-of the
holder, at maturity,Jinto six per cent, gold bearing
bondsi payable not less than five nor more than*twenty
years from their date, as: the Government may elect.
They will he issned in denominations of $5O, $lOO,. $5OO,
$l,BBO, and $5,000,An d all subscriptions must be-for fifty
dollars or some multiple of fifty dollars.
As the notes draw interest ftom August 15, Jersons
making deposits subsequent' to'that date must pay the
interest accrued from date of note to date of deposit.
IT IS A. NATIONAL SAVINGS BANK, offering a
higher rate of interest than any other, and the best se
curity. Any sayings*bank which pays its depositors
in U. 8. Notes, considers that it is paying in the best
circulating medium of the country, and it canctof pay
m anything better, for its own assets are .either in. Go
vernment securities or in notes or bonds payable in Go
vernment paper.

In addition to the very liberal interest, cn the notes
for three years, this privilege of conversion is now
worth about three per cent, per annum, forthe current

that the actual profit on this loan, at.the present market

Bnt aside from all the advantages we have ennme

this exemption is worth about two per oenhper annum,
according to ths rate of taxation in various parts of the

bered to correspond with the propoial; and the; parties
thereto must guarantee that the toods shall be in every
respect equal to army standard, otherwise the proposal,
will not be considered.
A guarantee; signed by two responsible persons, must
accompany each bid, guaranteeing that the bidder will
supply the articles awarded to him nnder bis proposal.
Bids will be opened on Tuesday, October 18,1861, at
two o’ clock P. M. ,at this office, and bidders are request.
