meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Philadelphia
Oae Works, held on the sth instant, the following pre•
amble and resolution were adopted:
Warms. The great advance in the cost of living tin.
posed an imperative duty on the Trustees to advance
the wages of their employees; and whereas, the cost of
coal and all other materials consumed in the manufac
ture of One have advanced to a price that compels the
Trustees, in order to protect the important trust com
mitted to their charge from serious loss, and to make
the annual addition to tt e Sinking Fund required by
law, to advance the price of Gal: fifty cents per thou
sand cubic feet.
The Trustee& are aware - that the increasetnega"WM
prove a burden to many consruners, and they green , / re
gret the necessity that constrains it; but When the con
sumer rellecte that nearly every article we FUT.:shaft hai
advanced from 60 to 106 per cent,, and we propose but
an advance of 10( per cent. on. the main article upon
which we rely for revenue, its necessity must be appa
rent, particularly when the operations of the past year
are known to have resulted in a-large lose to the Trust,
notwithstanding our then existing contrasttcenableti

it therefore
Resolved, That the Chief Ingineer be directed to give
public notice that on and after the first day of Sebtem-

ELECTRICITY-
ITS WONDERS
The object of the following adyertiooreat is to tot forth
In the development of s new, philosewtor
speaking forth the language of Nature: and
as It reveals the only' true rationale for the
Featly aye years ago Professor O. M. BOLpEfi located
himself in the city of Philadelphia, at 110.`i2so WA.L.
BPI' Street, and announced his great discovery in the
therapentid application of Magnetism, belvanisin. and
other-modifications of Electricity for the care of the
most obstinate, acute, and chronic &semi.
In announcing to the public' a discovery so Intimately
connected with the well-being of our race, it may be
deemed proper to make tife:w prefatory remarks to pre
pare the mind of the reader, for the reception of evi
dence' and facts too incredible for belief.
This discovery is the result of more than ten years'
hard and saientific investigattons. It develops not only
a sellable system for the diagnosis of, disease, but the
only effictent and reliable means of cure: Its great
superiority over all other systems for the rinse of dis
ease has been practically Stinted for more than ten years.
and for five years in Philadelphia, where twelve thou
sand invalids have been treated, suffering from almost
every form and condition of disease common to , all sec-
tione of our country, who, after treatment by the most
eminent 'medical Alen 1n Philadelphia, Boston. New
York. and other cities, bad been amen up as incu
rable; and in nearly every case a perfect cure bad
been effected.
Many of the most obstinate of the above cases treated
have been warranted by special contract, and not a
failure has been made in any warranted case. As in
dubitable evidence of the.foregoing statement, we have
adduced. in the following advertisement testimonials
from citizens of Philadelphia, who had suffered from a
complication of diseases for four, ten, and even thirty
yeari, and had availed themselves of the best medical
skill in this and other cities, and were given upas in- -
curable, but afterwards were fully restored to health
by a few applications of Electricity.
Such an array of evidence as will hereafter appear in
this advertisement is not merely to show that Professor
.BOLLES has made -an important discovery in the ap
plication of Plasticity as a therapeutic agent, but em
phatically to show that nearly all 4isessee which Lave
been considered incurable in all past ages, and are , so
considered at the present time by the most eminent
medical men, can be speedily and permanently cared
by the different modifications of Electricity. when ap
plied in harmony with his discovery of the .action of
Electricity through the oerebroospinal EMU.
DBEUL ilt 00
We are caring, and further pledge ourselves to cure,
a certain class of diseases acknowledged to be incurable
eby any known process of medication—dlseases that
never bave, nor never can be controlled, only by his
mode of anbilna the various modifications of Electri
city.
We are often asked for what disarm& Is Electricity
beet adapted f In reply, we would say, for all dieessee
to which flesh is heir--acute or chronic. inflammatory ,
or paralytic. • In all cases where medicine is beneficial,
and in all cases beyond the influence and control of
medicine. Electricity has the power of arousing the
vital force by changing its polarities; thereby repas
t:Mg secretion, excretion, digestion, and circulation
and bringing the systOm back to a condition of harmony
and health.--
Thousands of the most reliable individuals In this city
who have been treated at ifo. MO Walnut street can
and Wlll vouch for the above statement of facts in their
own astonishing Cured. We verily believe that wehave
cured more obstinate diseases during the five - years o
our practice in the city of Philadelphia than all the
medical men that have ever practised in this city, either
allopathically, ham cepatbi cally, or by any otherpathy.
This assertion may look like boasting, bat it .is true,
every Word Of it for Who ever heard of each astonish-
trig corm
Who shall properly estimate the incalculable blessing
thus so speedily conferred on suffering Humanity, When,
instead of being drugged for months. and thrown on
beds of languishing, health is restored by this treat
ment, in many oases almost' instantaneously? In con 7
elusion, we would sal, for the encouragement of the
dyspeptic, neuralgic, coasumptite. rheumatic, para•
lytic. - eptleotic, and, in fine, sll those on whom medical
treatment ever did and ever will prove a total failure,
that there is still hope in your owe, and &fair chance for
your reairery, at No. nsto WALNUT Street.
The followinereport Is not the result of hearsay, or ,
far-off certificates, or reports of men of doubtful ve
racity, but from reliable 'Wetness and professional men
in our very midst, whose report was arrived at after
weeks of careful investigation. at IVO WALNUT Street,
where Professor BOLLES has been testing his discovery
in the applicatiokof Electricity, for the speedy and per
manent cure of acute and chronic diseases, for five
years, in which time he has treated more than twelve
thousand invalids with success.

nate diseases at No. 1220 WALNUT Street,Philadelphia,.
