On the 28th August, at Spring Mill Dam, Montgomery
county, Penneylv,snia, SAMUEL E. OROOK, in the
24hh j ear of hie age. ' •
In the death of Brother P. 0. Samuel E. Crock, the
Junior 0. U. A. M. has lost one of its brightest orros
meats, one whore interest and devotion to the Otder were
eenalled only by the purity of his friendship and the mo
bility 'of his demeanor. Joining the Order at the time of
its organization, his course has been one of energy and
perseverance, and while he rover shrank .from perform
ing those duties which hie. popularity thrust upon him, he
was ambitions only in the discharge of them, and was
ever looking to the success of the . Order, rather than his
own personal aggrandizement. We remember hie Mit
words in the collkcil room—l' Good bye,kboys ; you'll
never see me again ; lam going to war.", While he did
not live to carry out his determination, still bow pro
phetic his words ! When we saw him again it was to
perform the lest sad ritee, in following hint to the grave.
We were so used to hearing hts yoice,which always reag
with a men y laugh, that it wilt be impossible for ut to
realize that he is dead. No; he - fa' not dead, bat has
only left this scene of trouble and sorrow, and gone at
his Maker's sudden call, to perform his duty in a higher
sphere. We loved and respected him only as brothers
in the seine society can ; and while tears rush unbidden
to our eyes, as we contemplate hie whoie.sonled friend-,
ship, we shall console ourselves with the fact, that he
was a credit to all who knew him, and that .
