Prom Simpson and Neill asking for the passage of an
Ordinance prohibiting the storage of benzine, petroleum,
and other explosive articles in the portions of

red at Christian-street wharf on Tuesday night might be
repeated.
Mr 51EGART presented several petitions, numerously
'Opted, relative to the nettle matter.
[The recant lien at Christimi•street wharf, where n
vessel loaded with coal oil burned for fourteen continu
ous hours despite the efforts of the firemen to extinguish
the flames ' shows that the article is exceedingly danger
ous in the built-up portions of the city - . The petroleum
has but recently been introduced into commerce, and int
rgoottitirs ere ltronyjit to the city from the wells,
for shipment to the East and to Europe. Until TeliSeili
can be obtained to convey it abroad, the oil is stored
-various parts of the city, in any vacant building which
can be rented at a cheap rate. The Mayor and Fire
Ifirtridial Ellielthurn are constaidly rimoiving complaints
upon the subject.
The petroleum is not only a dangerous commodity in
case of fire, hut at all times the stench arising from it is
very annoying In the crude mate, the benzine arising
from the oil. mid mingling with the atinoldieric air,

Reports of committees.
The Committee on Railroads olfored an ordinance au
thorizing the Mayor to lemse the railroad on Market
Cwt. belonging to the CitYi hl the Pon:amnia Mil.
road. Company, for a period of thirty years, at Sl,OOO
yer annum, provided said company shall keep the read in
repair without cast to the city.
WETJIERILL moved to reduce the rent from $l,OOO
to i5l per annum, on the genial that it would be a suing,
to the city to get rid of the road. Mint some discussion,
the amendment was agreed to.

Mr. DAVIS wed a certain tarty of the Board of Con.
irollers were very anxious to lease it certain building to
the Fourteenth ward. This building cannot be used for
any other purpoee, and he was sure mere was something
wrong in it. He would not vote for the bill - unless he

lease.
Mr. GINNODO &fowled the Board of Controllers, and
argned that the matter was all nets', and that the build

counting-house, on Noble street wharf, the considera
tion of which was pobtponed.
The Committee on Markets reported an ordinance to

Department of Markets, which was agreed to.
The bill from the Select Council appropriating 530,000
for the completion of the new wirks at Fairmount was
concurred in.

mitted in the County Tipperary on the 28th of April.

residence. About fifteen years ago the former owner of
the proferty was assassinated at the same place, under

REBEL TORrEDOES.—The rebel prisoners atYorktown
are at work under General Van Allen's direction, re
moving the torpedoes which were so ingeniously and
