jiui suits of the citixen« have been published with much
regularity since the year 1793. The first year lu which a
directory was produced was 1785, at which period the

slMjpot volume* wm-* published, one being gotten up by
STraclS YYblte, and tbe other by an eccentric old gentte

and collectors ot such literary relics now held an odd
copy of W bite #r filacphereon to be worth almost or
unite its weight in gold.
The first directories ere scarcely more than primers in
appearanct, in comparison with the more modern times,
•and they bear abent the same relation to them iu respect
to bulk, Ac , as tbe Philadelphia or that day bore lo the
present wide-spread and populous city. The success of

from the fact that six years were suffered to elapae bufor
they were followed by a successor. In 1701, Mr. Cle

was devised by 31r. John McAllister, Jr., and
established by City Councils. In 1792, no directory was

brought out directories. 1n'795 Edmund Hogan pub

Prof. B. has established himself for life in this city,
and his success in treating the sick is a sufficient guaran

N. B It will be well for tbe diseased to recollect that
Prof. B. has given a word of caution in his pamphlet to
guard them against trusting their health in the hands of
those in this city claiming to treat diseases according to
his discovery. This caution may seem severe on those
using Electricity at hazard, but it is the severity of truth
and designed for the good of humanity.
