ing the misunderstanding n, ius case. He was entirety
satisfied that tliia yonug man was worthy of confidence,
as a good man, a preacher of ability, and decidedly
in favor of the Union and the Government. The
vote was reconsidered. His recommendation, which
WftS laid on the tab!**, was taken up, and the P. E.
tvftS granted permission to employ niui in the itinerant
work.
Bev. J. A. Massey made a statement, that his views
on Thursc ay had been incorrectly ttated iu aomeof tho
papers. He was reported as having said that the
** wretched newspapers have deluded the people with
tho cry of Union, Union. Uniuu.” Ho demanded that
tbe correction should be made. His remark, he stated,
was in rtgaid to Secession newspapers which had de
luded tbe people.
Bev. James Moore, an ordained minister of the Metho
dist Protestant Church, earn a before the bar of the Con*
ftrenco for the furpy&o of having his ordination recog

The whole report, as pertains to Dickinson College,

The following laymen were appointed members of the
Educational Committee!
Colson Dieskill Amos Philipps, James B. Roswell,
Esqs.; W. H. Allen, LL. D., Hou. J. J. Lewis, G. J.
'Wilson, Hon. D. M. Bates, E. A. Ellis, Hon. S. M. Har
rington, E Wilmer, Janie. Wallace, and L.S. H. Irving.
The second part of the report portains to the Wesleyan
Female OolUli®.
The report was taken up jeriafint. During the con
sideration of the report the president and lay trustees
were invited to take part.
Edwin Wilmer, Esq., made an address in strong terms
in favor Of the president, faculty, and institution at Wil
uuQgfoii, Delaware. He eloquently pleaded fur tho relief
of tbe college from all financial embarrassment. Hu be
lieved it could be done. When Napoleon proposed a
passage of the Alps, one of hU generals said it was im
possible “ Impossible, impossible,” said Napoleon, “ the
word is not French.” So said Mr. Wilmer—when a
W<?rfe should be accomplished by the Church, tlie.word
impossible is not Methudmic.
He believed any pastor could raise, from bis people, at
least $5O for that purpose. 110 would pledge that amount
to the pastor that tho Bishop should send for the church
he belongs.
He closed his address with a beautiful figure, compa.
ling the (Inurch to ft Tfoble ship, outriding every storm
and destined to saOot till die light of the millennial mom
should dawn on a world redeemed and saved, ending with
* * give us the money.”
The venerable Bishop m«3e a statement explanatory
and apologetical. Be stated tout he had been com
pelled to call upon assistance in presiding over the Con
ference.
He bad supposed that when old age should come the
world would turn dark, and the Church turn green, and
life be a burden. His general health was good, but he
was suffering from a complaint which Dr. Clark says
cannot be cured—namely, old uge. But he has no more
gumption than to toelfeYO tfcfct tho world is making pro
gress
The debate upon tbe interests of the Female College
was continued until the hour of quarter before 12 o'clock.
An afternoon session was ordered for 3 o’clock.
Bev. 38. J. Way was granted leave of absence on ac
count of eicftnTO,
The chair was occupied during the most of the morn
ing session by tbe Bev. T. J. Tnompson.
The committee on the “ State of the Country, ll made
an amended and unanimous report.
The first-resolution having beea adopted by a vote the
aßu* day, and tha second resolution being under con*
sideration,
Bev. C. Karsoer moved to amend by inserting tho word
•< President” before Government.
Dr. Hodgson thought there was no necessity for the
amendment, as the President ia included in tho Govern
m*ht No loyal man will neglnct to pray for the Frosi*
dent. The two are inseparably connected. As we sus
tain the one wo shall the other.
The amenr merit was laid upon the table, and the reso
lution was adopted unauimou-ly.
The third resolution was read and unanimously
adopts.
The fourth being under consideration, Iter. J. R. An
derson moved to strike out“ by whom kings reign,” Ac ,
as in this country we do not believe in the Divine right
of kings! [Laughter.]
He thought that iu republican America we do not need
any guch quotation. Kiugs were given by the Almighty
as a great infitetiun.
The amendment was laid upon the table, and the reso
lution was adopted unanimouety.
The fifth resolution was taken up.
Rev. P. Coombe said that be would sow go for tho re-
POlt Qf th? committee as ameuded, heart and soul, and
tKKIj aild Strength, fie would go for it because there ia
a full and distinct recognition of the Constitution) which
he thought the original repoit did not have. He would
new go for (he report.
The ayes and sues were ordered.
fifty. Mi'. Colelazer wished to disabuse the minds of the
public In regard to the position which gome of tho mem
bers of the Conference in the Southern part of the work
are supposed to occupy. No surrounding circumstances
have changed bis admiration of this beautiful Govern*
ment. Maryland is loyal for the Union. Mr. C. read
an extract or a letter jwnt received by himself from Go
wernor Ilicke, showing the voice of tho people tnrough
the Governor. He gays:
“lan; glad to see your Conference is requiring all
candidates to take the oath of allegiance to the Govern*
ment as a test of their admittance into your body. I
was much wonied at the weak-kneed course of oar Le
gislature upon the test-oath subject. These aro times
that do not allow delicacy of feeling to control our acts.
I would go against my father if I had not confidence in
his fealty to the Government of the United States.
w As you know full well, I have endured much to aid
in preserving the Union, and am willing to sufTer yet
more if I can but contribute a little to so desirable a
purpose.”
Tbe reading of the letter and the nohie and patriotic
Fpeech of Mr. Colulazer, called forth much enthusiastic
pleasure ULd applause.
The roll was then called, and the votes of the members
were announce! with the following result:
Yeas, unnimov.Bly • nays, none.
The last resolution and the preamble were then
adopts d.

Larceny of Teas and Cheese.—
Yesterday afternoon, a colored man named Allen Wood
was charged before Alderman Beitler with the theft of
two boxes of lea and a cheese fiotn the Reading Rail
road depot. At the same time, Dennis Keenan was
charged with receiving the groceries, knowing them to be
stolen. It appeared at the hearing that Wood was in the
employ of a furniture dealer at Second and Race streets,
and had frequent occasion to take loads of furniture to

article* had been missed from the depot, and suspicion
fell on Wood, from the fact that whenever he brought n
load of furniture he would throw his horse blanket on
the ground, and when he weut driving, it seemed to
cover some bulky article. Accordingly, at his last visit
he w&s watched, and was Been to place a cheese; box
under his blanket as he left the station. He was taken
into custody and sent down to Moyamensing prison.
Having been caught in jiagrante delictu, he con
fessed the theft, and said that bo had sold the proceeds of
former robberies to an Irishman named Keenan. A
search was instituted for this latter personage but without
avail till he was accidentally discovered in this wise,
Lamon and Bartholomew, who had the
matter in hand, paid a visit to the pi toon, and while
passing along acorrider near the cell in which Wood was
confined, observed that he was talking threugh his grating
to an Irishman, eaepect.A this maxi at once, »u-i

They wore only absent about fifteen minutes, and left no
one in the store but Noe himself. It was also discovered
that Nee was doing little or no business, owing to the
dullness of the tinicß, and had a heavy insurance on a
tmoil stock of furniture. r
After the hearing of some other evidence, Mr. Noe
was held for a further hearing.
The Fire Marshal did not prefer a charge of arson
against him, but said that, under the circumstances, he
considfrcd it to be bis duty to have him held to bail
while tho affair was boing inmtigated.

The Koran forms ihe Moslem code of penal aud reli
gious law; and is believed I>y them to be inimitable by
human pen; and therefore insisted upon as a permanent
miracle, greator than the raising of the dead to life, and
alone sufficient to convince tlio world of Its heavenly
origin. It would not be far out of the wav (says Prof.
Taylor Lewis, of Union College* an able writer) to regard
it as one of the apocryphal books of tbe Bible. The great
interest consists in its in iependoct narration of some of
{be leading events in the early Old Testament history,
and it is in its oft* asserted claim to be the religion of
Abraham that this sublime poom of Mohammed has its
real power and long-enduring hold in so many parts
of the older continent.
The Koran ia written with the utmost elegance and
purity of language.
The Koran will be followed by translations of Tits
Zend-Avesta (Poreeee or Persian Firo-worebippers),
Tub Vedas (Hindoo), Tub Book or Ktvos (Ohinoeo),
and The Edda (Scandinavian).

About two years aud six months ago I was taken with
Inflammatoiy Rheumatism, and would sometimes have it
in different parte of my b«dy, that I wouldbe un
able tomove. The parts affected would swell, and the
pain was very severe, and in damp weather would ge

tried different physicians and personal recommendations
to cure the rheumatism without fall, I &l£d IiAVO
taken a great many different extracts, and other medi

friend to try Professor BOLLES & CO , 1220 WALNUT

after the fourth application I felt better than I had for

QLUTEN CAPSULES
PUKE COD-LIVES OIL.
The repugnance of most patients to COD-LIVER
OIL, and the inability of many to take it at all, has in
duced various forms {of disguise for its administration
that are familiar to the Medical Profession. Some of
them answer in special cases, but more often thefvehicle
neutralizes the usual effect of the Oil, proving Quite ai
unpalatable and of leas therapeutic value. The repug

GOD-LIVER OIL CAPSULES have been much nsed
