Jenaa Whitcomb’s Remedy for Asthma. .
[Letter from a Lawjer'in NewbUryport, Maas.]
Nkwbubtpobt, February 25,1866.
Josbph Bobbitt, Esq —Dear 8lr: It Is now nearly
twelve months since I received Hie first bottle of your
valuable medicine for tho core of the Asthma.
For thirteen years I suffered with the Asthma, and
during that time there were but few months in which I
did not suffer with a paroxysm that entirely prostrated
me tor two or three days, and sometimes longer.
I will say, that from the time I took the first dose of
your (< Remedy” to the present hour, I have not had a
had attack, and now my system is so free from It, that
the most active exercise and exposure seldom has any
other effect than to slightly restriot the lungs Your
medicine soon dispels that sensation, and I can safely
claim a general release from the tormentor. PJesse
accept my gratitude for the great blessing, and believe
me that I shall endeavor to introduce the Remedy
whenever opportunity ocoun. With great respect, Jour
obedient servant, J. H. BRAGDON.
Mb. Bubshtt: I take pleasure in stating the won
derful effeots of" Whitcomb’s Remedy for the Asthma,”
on my wife. She has suffered for years with the Spas
modie form of that terrible disease. * * * Atone
time she was so far gone, that her physician could not
count the pulse. * * * We were obllged.to open
doors and windows in mid-winter, and resort to every
expedient that affection oonld devise to keep her alive.
At length I heard of "Whitcomb’sßemedy,”—it
aoted like a charm; It enabled her to sleep quietly in a
few minutes, guxd nearly broke up the disease. I beep
it constantly on hand—and though it has not cured her
it has donewpnders n the way of relief I am a Metho
dist clergyman, stationed here. I shall be happy to an
sver any inquiries respecting her ease, and you are at
liberty to make any use of the foregoing faots that will

LL3 1869—T0 CONSUMERS OF GAS.—As the sad:
den extreme oold weather has cause much inconvenience
to consumers of GAS by obstructing their supply-pipes
and meters, It may be useful to many of them to know
how to remove the ohitrnetlon, and obtain their usual
light
Thisoan he done In a few minutes by the application
of a few quarts of boiling water. £
The best method of applying it Is to cover the me ter.
and the pipe that comes injthrough the front wall, with
a piece of cloth, (the oommon tow-linen honse-cloth
answers very well,) and to poor the hot water upon the
doth until it is thoroughly soaked.
The doth serves to retain the hot liquid, and thus,
iu a short time, the coating of frost within the pipe ana
meter is thawed, leaving all clear for the flow of Gas.
In many oasss, the trouble arising from the freeslng
of meters eau he entirely avoided by the exerolse of
proper care in oloeisg the oellar doors and windows, so
as to exclude the cold draught of air, especially In the
tvicinity ef the meter.

HOFFMEIER’S
COMBINED
SHAFTS AND POLS,
FOR CARRIAGES
■, PATENTED SEPTEMBER T, 1858.
This valuable invention oonsists in the arrangement
and combination of the shafts of a carriage operating
on joints that, when closed together, form the pole, so
that either one or two horses can be Instantly attached
to a carriage, and with more despatch, safety, end se
curity than by the usual mode.
It has the greatest advantage for oonvenienee, there
being no bolts and nuts to be unscrewed, which are so
tedious and inconvenient when the ordinary shafts or
pole have to be removed or changed in muddy or frosty
weather. , , . ,
It is the most perfect arrangement for a physician’s
carriage, so that he may attach one or two horses with
despatch.
Livery stable keepers will find it to be most useful
and profitable to their daily business; and the carriage
maker will find that this ImprovementwiU not only add
to the neatness and beauty of his carriages, but increase
his sales.
The Patentee is now in this city, and will remain
one week at the UNION HOTEL*, ABOH Street, be
tween Third and Fourth, and is desirous of selling
State. County, and Shop Rights.
Persons wishing to see and examine this useful In
vention, by calling on the Patentee, or at the celebrated
Carriage Depository of George W. Watson, CHEST
NUT Street, between Twelfth and Thirteenth, will
have a fair opportunity of judging of its merits and
utility, as a fall and complete SHAFT AND POLV is
there for exhibition, and the satisfaction of all inter
ested in the me and purchase of the same.
For further particulars inquire of
jall-St* AMOS K QpFFMBIER, Patentee.

GAS WORKS IN MINIATURE,
Each one, when lighted, making Its own Gas, just as

To allude to all the advantages of this beautiful and
simple arrangement, would require pages. It is gene
rally known how certificates are usually obtained, and
very little Importance is attached to them. A host of
these might bo added if deemed necessary. The thing
must be seen to be appreciated, which can be done by
applying at MERCHANTS* HOTEL,

but any one desirous of business, may, by celling as
