The wood and carpenter work (except the boring out the deadwood for the shaft) necessary to adapt the ves sel for the reception of the machinery, boilers, and ap pendages, wjil be provided at the expense of the Navy Department, and it will permit the use of such. facilities as it may hare for hoisting the heavy machinery on board. 702,76537 For the accommodation of the entire steam machinery and the fuel, there will be allowed in the body of the ship the entire space, under the berth dock, com mencing at twenty feet , abaft the mainmast. and thence extending forward a &stone° of 50 feet.
