The Republicans of Pennsylvania will bold a State Convention at llarrisburj, at noon on Wednesday, ' August 19, 1874, for the purposo of nominating candidates for Lieutenant Governor, Auditor General, Secretary of Internal Affairs, and Judge of tbe Supreme Court. The representation of the several counties in this Convention will be based on the apportionment of Senators and Representatives made by the present Legislature, each Senatorial and Rep resentative district being entitled to delegates equal in number to its repre sentation in the Legislature under said apportionment. A postponed exhibition of fireworks took place at New York on Monday evening. When near its close a pile of fireworks lying on the ground exploded by a spark from a rocket, and Roman candles, bombs, rackets, etc, whizzed among an assemblage of about five thous and people. A number of persons were injured, but only four so seriously as to require medical attendance. For a short time there was a feaiful p&Dio ambug the crowd. 100 houses were unroofed at Wash ington, by last Saturday's storm. Miehael Lahy, who was eraduated from tho Pittofield (Mass.) High School last week, at the ago of twenty-one, is a remarkable young man. When a child, while playing on the railroad track, he was run over by a train, and it was neces sary to amputate both arms so close to toe shoulders that no perceptible stumps are left. Nevertheless, he has perse vered in his studies, has not been absent or tardy once in his iour years' course at the High School, and has become proncient in the highest branches, turn ing the leaves of his book with his tongue.
