BY LAST NIGHT'S MAIL,
From the Baltimore Slay.
AERIVA.I. OP THE
STEAM q , , 4, SHIP
EAT WESTERN.
12 - DAYS LATER FROM EUROPE
The steamer Great Western arrived at her dock
in New York, on the 16th inst., from Liverpool,
brin.ingdates to the 31st ult.
She'took out the news of the capture of Monte
rey by the American forces under Gen. Taylor,
which created no little excitement.
The town Of Templeton was the scene of three
food riots on Monday, by a mob varying in num
bers from one to five hnndred men.
. . .
The difficulties of the Ministry—Lord John Rus
sell add Lord Cottenham, At the cabinet conned on
Wednesday, urged earnestly the constitutional no
cesity
. for an early session of Parliament, before
Christmas, not only to obtain an act of indemnity
for Lord Blessborough's extension of the labor-rate
act, but also to obtain a parliamentary sactiun for
the reduction of the 4s. duty on imported grain.—
The council broke up without coming to any defi
nite resolution.
At the meeting of the Ministry an Thursday, the
subject was resumed, and on this latter occasion
the opponents of an early session had the advan
tage of Mr. Bancroft's arrival from the United
States with intelligence that the supplies of grain
.
collected in the , Amertcanyorts for exportation is
so ample as to render it extremely improbable that
the supply was equal to any demand th - at ould lie
made, consequently this removed necessity for the
reduction of the duty, thus relieving the Ministry
from the -most important . motive for calling an
early session.
The objections to an early session, have been
most anxiously pressed by the Irish secretary, and
the other ministers connected with the government
of Ireland, ant with some show of reason they al
'lege, that au early session must embroil them with
Mr. O'Connell and his adherents and thus depres
sing the cabinet ofits principal support.
. Insacr..—The fetes in Paris in honor of the
rnatrimoidalconquestof Louis Phillippe and his son
have been postponed for some time, in consequence,
as has been alleged, of the inundations in certain
parts of France in consequence of the late rains and
storms. There is a storm brewing. which the pru
dent but avaricious constitutional king of the
French foresees. It is not to his interest to guar
rel with. England, and yet he has deliberately, and
with malice prepense, provoked.
Another insurrection in Portugal.—The latest
news from Portugal received at Madrid, announ
ced that arevolutionary movement had broken out
at Oportor. The reported arrest of the Duke-ot
Terceir was confirmed. That statesman is in pris
on et Oporto. A regency, it is said, was proclaim
ed in the name of iedree
War in Cirrassia.—The news from Circassia
Which comes down to the 31st August, is of great
and thrilling interest.
A Russian deserted to the Circassians, kaki De
lifusengi by name, who obtaining influence, with
the various tribes, has been raised to an important
command. has made a successful razzia on the Rus
sian- possessions.
Tux LOAN.—The Union says the whole loan
has been taken at prices ranging troth par t 0.5 per
cent premium.
CALL OF Titooes.7—'The Union of Monday night
says; that requisitions have been sent out from the
War Department, calling into the service of the
United States nine additional regiments of volun
teers to nerve during the war 'with Mexico, unless
sooner discharged. They are as follows:
One regiment of infantry from Massachsetts;
-Oneoregitnent of infantry froM New York;
One regiment of infantry from Pennsylvania;
One regiment of infantry from Virginia; •
One regiment of infantry from North Carolina;
One regiment of infantry from South Carolina;
One regiment of infantry from Mississippi;
One regiment of mounted men from Texas.

rptiE SKIN AND COMPLEXION, at this (and,
I indeed, every other)senion, is often repulsive
in appearance, caused, in eight cases out of ten, by
the atmosphere; and what persons suppOse disease
of the blood, is simply a disease of the skin.
some of the thousands who take purgative medicine,l
pills, and nseleis Sarsaparilla, were to use on their !
skin it softening and clearing balm, that opens the
pores, whitens the skin, and causes a healthy perspi-.
ration, that, be the skin-never so disfigured, unheal
thy, or diseased with pimples or freckles, sunburn,
tan and rnorphew, the true and genuine JONES'S
ITALIAN CHEMICAL SOAP never fails to, cure
and dispel them, and to make the skin clear and
lovely. It acts au mildly and soothingly on the
skin, that physicians use it on ladies and infants, in
old cases of scurvy ,crysipelris, salt rheum, sore head,
ringworm, and it (mind, the genuine Junes> soap)
has often effected a cure when every other remedy
failed. It is indeed a blessed remedy.

how yellow rough and unhealthy it makei the skin in

when applied. They should use a beautiful prepar
